Ilpo Kauhanen (born October 21, 1973 in Kuopio ) is a German - Finnish ice hockey goalkeeper . Most recently he played in the German Ice Hockey League for ERC Ingolstadt .

Career

In his youth, the 1.77 m tall goalkeeper moved to North America, where he joined the Cornwall Royals from the professional junior league OHL . He also played for the successor team Newmarket Royals and for league rivals London Knights . When it became clear that he was not signed by any senior team after his junior years, Kauhanen returned to his native Finland, where he first played in the second division for Jokipojat Joensuu and then for four years at Tappara Tampere .

In 1998 the goalkeeper moved to Germany in the 2nd Bundesliga for EC Bad Tölz . After three years in Bavaria, he signed a contract with the Kassel Huskies from the DEL in 2001 . After further guest appearances at ERC Ingolstadt and the Hannover Scorpions , Kauhanen moved to the Adlers Mannheim in 2005 . There he shared the task in the Adler-Tor with Frédéric Chabot . In the 2006/07 season he formed the goalkeeper team at the Eagles together with the German national goalkeeper Robert Müller .

Born in Finland, he has had German citizenship since 2005 and is therefore no longer subject to the quota of foreigners. In the 2007/08 season , Goalie was mainly used by the Adlers with cooperation partner Heilbronner Falken in the 2nd Bundesliga and finally signed a two-year contract with EV Duisburg in March 2008 . At the end of January 2009, Kauhanen moved to Herner EV in the ice hockey league , for which he was active until the end of the 2008/09 season . At the beginning of 2010 he was hired as a backup by ERC Ingolstadt and thus returned to his old place of work.

Since the end of April 2010, Ilpo Kauhanen has been living with his family in Leppävirta / Finland again.
