Siniša Martinović (born December 19, 1980 in Tuzla , SR Bosnia and Herzegovina , SFR Yugoslavia , today Bosnia-Herzegovina ) is a Croatian - German ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with the Tölzer Löwen in the DEL2 since 2019 .
Career
Siniša Martinović started his career at EV Füssen . In the 1999/00 season he came to seven appearances in the regional league . The next year, Martinović completed 27 games in the league . After two years in the first team of his home club, he moved to the 2001/02 season as a backup behind Radek Tóth for ETC Crimmitschau in the 2nd Bundesliga . The next year the goalkeeper played for the Heilbronner Falken , where he made six appearances behind the seeded Marko Suvelo . For the 2003/04 season Martinović moved to SC Bietigheim-Bissingen . In 2004 he returned to ETC Crimmitschau for a year, where he asserted himself as a regular goalkeeper. After this good season he moved to the Kassel Huskies in the German Ice Hockey League . Behind Joaquin Gage , he came to a total of five games. From there it led Martinović to league competitor Straubing Tigers and he was also used with the Landshut Cannibals in the 2nd Bundesliga with a funding license . For the 2007/08 season he returned to the ETC Crimmitschau, delivered very good performances and led the relegation candidate into the playoffs. In the following season Martinović played again for SC Bietigheim-Bissingen and was with the Steelers, also because of his achievements, German second division champions. Since Bietigheim-Bissingen waived the right to promotion, he also played the next season in the 2nd Bundesliga. There Martinović came with the Steelers to the semifinals.
For the 2010/11 season , the native Croat moved again to the DEL and signed an annual contract with the Iserlohn Roosters . However, this was dissolved in November 2010 by mutual agreement. In December he received a one-month contract with Iserlohn's DEL rival Hamburg Freezers , as they only had one goalkeeper available during this period. At the beginning of January 2011, Martinović was committed by the Schwenninger Wild Wings from the 2nd Bundesliga, who wanted to secure themselves in the goalkeeper position before the end of the transition period. For the 2013/14 season , Martinović moved to the Heilbronner Falken , which he left after a year for Bietigheim Steelers .
For the 2019/20 season, Martinović moved to EC Bad Tölz within the DEL2 .
International
Siniša Martinović represented the Croatian national team in five international tournaments, including four world championships. At the 2001 Division I World Cup , the national team came in fourth (24th place overall). In the next year, at the 2002 World Cup, Division I came in fifth (26th place overall). The 2003 World Championship of Div. I , which took place in Croatia, was unsuccessful for Martinović. Sixth place (27th place overall) meant relegation in front of their own audience. For the first time, the goalkeeper was not used in all games. At the 2004 Division II tournament , the decision about promotion was made in the last game against the Chinese national team , after the Croatians had previously won all games. A 3-1 lead after the second period was not enough, however, as China scored three goals in the final section and won 4-3. In the end, only second place remained (32nd place overall). In November 2004 Martinović failed with Croatia in the first round of qualification for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin .
