Joseph Cates

Joseph Cates actually Joseph Katz (born August 10, 1924 in New York City , † October 10, 1998 ibid) was an American film director and television producer .

Life

During the Second World War he served as a pilot in the Pacific region. After the war he first worked in the advertising industry.

Cate began his work in the film business as a director and producer alike in 1949. While as a director in the period from 1949 to 1993, in addition to television productions, he also directed some feature films, his focus as a producer was exclusively on television and especially television films. He was involved in more than 50 productions and made around 20 contributions for television series and films.

In the 1960s he turned to the production of Broadway plays.

In 1970 and 1972 he was awarded an Emmy for his work as a producer .

Cates is the father of actress Phoebe Cates . He had two other children besides her. Cates was married three times. His brother was Gilbert Cates (1934-2011), who was also active as a director and producer.
