Tony Russel , sometimes Tony Russell , actually Antonio Pietro Russo (born November 23, 1925 in Kenosha , Wisconsin , † March 18, 2017 in Las Vegas , Nevada ) was an American actor and voice actor .

Life

Tony Russel was already active in performances as a student. During World War II he was used as a pilot in the US Air Force ; afterwards he studied linguistics and acting at the University of Wisconsin . He graduated from the Pasadena Playhouse in 1952 and made his first film, Hiawatha , that same year . He narrowly missed the lead role in the Disney television production of Zorro against Guy Williams ; Russel played this role in a European film around ten years later. However, his tall, athletic appearance made him take on numerous supporting roles in films and television series in which he could use his physical skills. In 1962 he went to Italy and stayed there for five years, during which he made a number of adventure and science fiction films .

In addition to his acting activities, he founded the ELDA (English Language Dubbers Association) in Italy, with which he not only edited Italian films for the English-speaking market, but also introduced the system of providing an actor with the same voice actor over the course of his career. For example, Russell himself was the English voice of Fernando Sancho . After returning to the United States in 1967, he often worked for television, but began to specialize in dinner theater . One saw Russell again and again at film meetings.
