Guy Williams (born January 14, 1924 in New York as Armando Joseph Catalano , † around May 1, 1989 in Buenos Aires , Argentina ) was an American actor .

Life

Williams grew up in Little Italy . He attended high school and the Peekskill Military Academy . After the end of the Second World War , he worked as a photo model . In 1946 he was signed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer . He had a small, uncredited role in the war film The Beginning or the End before his film contract expired.

In 1952 he got a contract with Universal Studios and played supporting roles in several films such as The Man from the Alamo with Glenn Ford and The World Is His with Tyrone Power in the lead role. He also appeared in various television series . In 1957 he got the lead role in the Disney television series Zorro , which he played in 82 episodes until 1961. In 1962 he made two films in Europe , including the lead role in the adventure film Captain Sindbad at the side of Heidi Brühl . In 1962 he was in discussion for the role of Winnetou in the Karl May film The Treasure in Silbersee . It was not until shortly before filming began that he was finally replaced by Pierre Brice .

The following year, Williams took on the role of Will Cartwright in the 1959 series Bonanza . This role was introduced as the performer of Adam Cartwright , Pernell Roberts , wanted to leave the show, but the producers wanted to hold on to the concept of four main characters. When Roberts changed his mind and renewed his contract for another year, Williams' role was rewritten after just five episodes.

In 1965 he got the lead role in the science fiction series Lost between Stranger Worlds (Lost in Space) , which he played in 83 episodes until 1968. After the series was discontinued, Williams retired and only appeared occasionally as a guest on television shows. In 1973 he moved to Argentina, where he lived until the end. In 1989 the police found him lifeless in his apartment, the cause of death was a brain haemorrhage .
