Woodstock in the movie
Woodstock was the main filming location for the 1993 released movie and Groundhog Day ( Groundhog Day ) with Bill Murray . The exterior shots of the film were mainly shot in the historic city center around central Woodstock Square. While the film is set in Punxsutawney , Pennsylvania , half a mile away , the traditional site of the Groundhog Festival, Woodstock was chosen by the producers because it seemed more suitable.
The city celebrates the Groundhog Days after the film success of And Daily the Groundhog every year in early February . Tours to the original locations are offered. The citizens of Woodstock have meanwhile also got their own groundhog named Woodstock Willie analogous to the original Punxsutawney Phil .
Some scenes from A Ticket for Two, starring Steve Martin and John Candy , were also filmed in Woodstock. In particular, the scene when the two protagonists' completely burned out car is towed and a little later they hire a truck to take them to Chicago.
