Richmond is located in the northwest suburb of Chicago . The most important watercourses are the North Branch Nippersink Creek and the West Branch Nippersink Creek.
The community is bordered to the north by the state of Wisconsin, to the east by Burton Township, to the south by McHenry Township and to the west by Hebron Township.
Downtown Chicago is 86.2 km southeast, Rockford is 68.3 km west, Wisconsin's capital Madison is 110 km northwest, and Milwaukee is 71 km north-northeast.
history
The first settler in 1837 was William A. McConnell, who was originally from Pennsylvania. A post office was opened in 1838. Since more settlers were added by 1844, a village was created. At first the municipality was called Montelona . But just a few years later the place got its current name after the hometown of the settler Isaac Reed, Richmond in Vermont. In 1855 Richmond received a rail connection. And in 1872 the place became a township. In 1902, a devastating fire destroyed 20 buildings in Richmond.
traffic
US 12 , which is one of the longest interstate highways in the country , runs through the center of Richmond, Main Street . Illinois State Route 173 runs through the south of the local area, Kenosha Street . All other roads are subordinate routes as well as inner-city connecting roads.
The airfield Westosha Airport is just a few kilometers northeast of the community. Milwaukee's larger Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport is 38 miles northeast of Richmond.
