Ragnar Omtvedt (born February 18, 1890 in Oslo , † March 31, 1975 in St. Lucie County ) was a Norwegian ski jumper , cross-country skier and Nordic combined athlete who competed for the United States since 1912 .

In 1912 Omtvedt emigrated to the USA, where he became the most successful ski jumper of his time alongside another Norwegian emigrant, Anders Haugen . In 1913, 1914 and 1917 Omtvedt won the US ski jumping championships; In 1913 and 1916 he also jumped the world record twice with attempts at 51.5 and 58.5 meters, making him probably the first athlete to jump over 50 meters. In the 1920s, the now 30-year-old tied no longer to his previous successes at: Although he achieved in 1922 the Canadian title, but at the Winter Olympics in 1924 , he missed both in the Nordic combined (23 position) and in the 18- Kilometer cross-country skiing (35th place) a top ten result. In a ski jumping competition, he fell badly and suffered a nerve injury in his leg that partially paralyzed him. His career in this discipline was ended, but he still started cross-country skiing in the following years. In 1967 Omtvedt was inducted into the US Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame .
