A temporary stadium is a stadium that is usually built as a temporary solution and / or is subject to a time-limited period of use.

purpose

Temporary stadiums are usually used in event construction at locations without appropriate infrastructure when it comes to hosting sports events. Temporary stadiums are set up solely for the purpose of a specific event . When the event is over, the temporary stadiums also disappear again. The sustainability is intended to be guaranteed through the reuse of materials used, elements and modules elsewhere without loss of quality and safety.

Advantages (examples)

In addition to high cost efficiency and short construction times, the advantages of temporary stadiums also lie in their feasibility and adaptability to unusual locations.

Adidas Arena

One example of this is the Adidas Arena , which was built on the occasion of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in the middle of Berlin directly in front of the Reichstag and comprised a football fun park with 40,000 square meters. This project could only be approved as a temporary building in such an exposed location.

Canadian BC Lions venue

Another example is the interim venue of the Canadian football club BC Lions in Vancouver . In 2010, 27,500 seats, twelve suites for 20 people, commentary boxes for radio and TV as well as press areas, floodlights, lighting and the Disguise. The football club is using the interim stadium during the general refurbishment of their home ground, BC Place Stadium . For the construction of the alternative arena, the stadium builder in charge, Nüssli Gruppe , used material that was previously used for the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.

Stadiums for the Swiss Wrestling and Alpine Festival

Federal Wrestling and Alpine Festival in Burgdorf (2013)

A temporary concept on an even larger scale was the stadiums for the traditional two-day Swiss Wrestling and Alpine Festival :

  • Frauenfeld 2010: A stadium with almost 50,000 seats was built there - almost half of it covered. The construction time was around six weeks.
  • Burgdorf 2013: Arena with 52,000 seats
  • Estavayer-le-Lac 2016: 52,000 places
