The Ferrari 212F2 was a Formula 2 racing car , built and used by Scuderia Ferrari .

Development history

The Ferrari 212F2 was a simplified Ferrari 166 and before the Ferrari 500 it was Ferrari's first Formula 2 racing car. The V12 engine was built into the tubular space frame of the Ferrari 125 . The turbocharged version was driven in the Argentine Formula Libre in 1949.

In 1950 the car was revised. Aurelio Lampredi revised the engine and the car got a longer wheelbase and improved mechanics. The works cars dominated the Formula 2 races of the 1950 season. In 1951, when Scuderia turned to the new Formula 1 racing cars , the 275F1 , 340F1 and 375F1 models , the cars were sold to private drivers. The Swiss Ecurie Espadon in particular used the 212F2 for drivers like Rudolf Fischer and Rudolf Schoeller in the drivers' world championship.
