The Ferrari F2008 was the 41th Formula 1 race car of the Scuderia Ferrari . The team contested all 18 rounds of the 2008 Formula 1 World Championship with this vehicle .

presentation

The presentation of the Ferrari F2008 took place on January 6, 2008 in Maranello in front of around 80 journalists. Ferrari was the first team to present its new car. Just one day later, Kimi Raikkonen did the first test drive on the in-house race track in Fiorano .

Livery and sponsors

Like its predecessor, the F2008 was painted completely red.

The main sponsor was Philipp Morris with his Marlboro cigarette brand . Ferrari was the only team to have a cigarette manufacturer as its main sponsor in 2008, despite the tobacco advertising ban. Although Ferrari could have used the Marlboro logos in Bahrain, Monaco and China, Ferrari did not use the lettering in these races either. So it happened that the brand name was indicated by a barcode and was not seen in any race throughout the season. Ferrari was only on the road with the Marlboro logos during the test drives before the season.

Etihad Airways came in as a new sponsor and advertised on the back of the rear wing.

Technology and development

The F2008 was designed by Aldo Costa , Nikolas Tombazis and John Iley. In terms of aerodynamics, the car was refined in some places and got additional wings. The wheelbase was shortened a little to gain performance in slow corners. As in previous years, the F2008 was powered by the Ferrari type 056 .

The greatest technical innovation was the introduction of standard electronics (SECU). This was developed by McLaren with the help of Microsoft and made available to other teams. Technical aids such as traction control or an automatic starter were banned and abolished in 2008.

driver

Ferrari relied on the driver pairing Kimi Räikkönen and Felipe Massa in the 2008 season . Raikkonen started as world champion with the number 1, Massa with the number 2.

successes

Ferrari achieved eight pole positions and eight victories with the F2008 . Overall, Raikkonen and Massa scored 172 points, which meant that the team was able to win the constructors' championship for the 16th time. Raikkonen could not defend his driver title.
