The 2008 Bahrain Grand Prix took place on April 6th at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir and was the third race of the 2008 Formula 1 World Championship . The winner was Felipe Massa ( Ferrari ) ahead of his teammates Kimi Räikkönen and Robert Kubica ( BMW-Sauber ).

Felipe Massa won his 6th Grand Prix in Formula 1. For Ferrari it was a total of 203 victory in the Formula 1 World Championship. Robert Kubica achieved his first pole position . It was also the first for BMW Sauber as a vehicle manufacturer. As an engine manufacturer, BMW has achieved 33 pole positions so far. Heikki Kovalainen already achieved his second fastest race lap this season and in Formula 1 overall.
For McLaren it was the 136th fastest lap as a vehicle manufacturer, for Mercedes the 76th in Formula 1 as an engine manufacturer.

In free practice, the Brazilian Felipe Massa drove the fastest lap in a Ferrari . His team mate Kimi Räikkönen was in 2nd place ahead of Nico Rosberg ( Williams-Toyota ). In the afternoon Massa set the fastest time again. Räikkönen was second again, Heikki Kovalainen ( McLaren-Mercedes ) third. In the last free practice, Rosberg was first ahead of Massa. Mark Webber ( Red Bull-Renault ) took third place.
qualification
In the first qualifying stage, Felipe Massa ( Ferrari ) drove the best lap time. Jarno Trulli ( Toyota ) and Kimi Räikkönen followed in second and third place. In stage 1, Super Aguri Honda and Force India-Ferrari were completely eliminated. David Coulthard ( Red Bull-Renault ) and Sebastian Vettel in the Toro Rosso also retired early. In the second qualifying section, as in the first section, Massa was fastest ahead of Heikki Kovalainen . In the last qualifying stage, Pole Robert Kubica surprisingly took pole position in a BMW Sauber . It was the first pole position of their career both for himself and for the BMW-Sauber team. Massa finished second, 0.027 seconds back. The Briton Lewis Hamilton took 3rd place.

Felipe Massa ( Ferrari ) won the Bahrain Grand Prix in front of his teammates Kimi Räikkönen and Robert Kubica ( BMW Sauber ).
Massa won the starting duel against Kubica before the first corner. Raikkonen also passed the BMW-Sauber on lap 1. Behind them were Raikkonen, Heikki Kovalainen ( McLaren-Mercedes ), Jarno Trulli ( Toyota ), Nick Heidfeld , Nico Rosberg ( Williams-Toyota ) and Jenson Button ( Honda ). Lewis Hamilton made a bad start because the anti-stall system was activated. As a result, the Briton fell back to tenth place. On the way forward, he drove his rival Fernando Alonso into the rear in a maneuver , which knocked off the front wing. The subsequent repair stop threw him out of the decision.
Kovalainen set the fastest race lap in 1: 33.193 min.
Defending champion Raikkonen was in the drivers' standings with 19 points ahead of Heidfeld (16) and Hamilton, Kubica and Kovalainen, who were each with 14 points. Massa followed in sixth place with the win. Among the designers, BMW Sauber was in the lead with 30 points ahead of Ferrari (29) and McLaren-Mercedes (28). Williams-Toyota (10) was currently the best pursuer in the top 3.
