Amblypharyngodon is a genus of the Bärblinge (Rasborinae). The freshwater fish are found on the Indian subcontinent , Sri Lanka and mainland Southeast Asia up to the Mekong river basin .

features

Amblypharyngodon species have an elongated, slender body and reach a length of four to 20 cm. In most cases the fish are silvery colored and partly transparent. In some cases, the caudal fins are colored, mostly red and yellow tones. The mouth is terminal, the lower jaw engages a gap in the upper jaw with a symphysis button . Barbels are absent. The pharynx are molar and have flat or indented crowns. There are 42 to 79 small scales in a longitudinal row. The sideline is reduced to four to seven scales. The dorsal fin has nine to ten rays, the anal fin seven to eight.
