Joseph Lafontant

Joseph Lafontant (born December 17, 1937 in Jacmel ) is a Haitian clergyman and auxiliary bishop emeritus in Port-au-Prince .

Life

The Archbishop of Port-au-Prince , François-Marie-Joseph Poirier , ordained him priestly for the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince on June 29, 1963 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Gilba and auxiliary bishop in Port-au-Prince on November 25, 1986 . The Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops and President of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America , Cardinal Bernardin Gantin , ordained him episcopal on January 25 the next year ; Co - consecrators were François-Wolff Ligondé , Archbishop of Port-au-Prince, and Léonard Pétion Laroche , Bishop of Hinche .

On July 27, 2013, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
