The 2008 Spanish Grand Prix took place on April 27 at the Circuit de Catalunya in Montmeló and was the fourth race of the 2008 Formula 1 World Championship . The winner was Kimi Raikkonen ( Ferrari ) ahead of his teammate Felipe Massa and Lewis Hamilton ( McLaren-Mercedes ).
Reports
background
Kimi Raikkonen won his 17th Grand Prix, achieved his 15th pole position and drove his 26th fastest race lap in Formula 1. For Ferrari it was a total of 204th victory, 197th pole position and 206th fastest race lap in the Formula 1 World Championship.
training
In free practice, the Finn Kimi Räikkönen drove the fastest lap in a Ferrari . His team mate Felipe Massa was in second place ahead of Lewis Hamilton ( McLaren-Mercedes ). In the afternoon, Raikkonen set the fastest time again. Second was Nelson Piquet jr. ( Renault ), his team-mate Fernando Alonso third. In the last free practice session, for the first time this season, neither a Ferrari driver nor a McLaren-Mercedes driver finished in the top three. Nick Heidfeld ( BMW Sauber ) was first ahead of David Coulthard ( Red Bull-Renault ) and Fernando Alonso.
qualification
Kimi Raikkonen ( Ferrari ) drove the best lap time in the first qualifying stage . Jarno Trulli ( Toyota ) and Fernando Alonso ( Renault ) followed in second and third place. In stage 1, Super Aguri Honda and Force India-Ferrari were completely eliminated. David Coulthard ( Red Bull-Renault ) and Sebastian Vettel in the Toro Rosso also retired early. In the second qualifying stage, Felipe Massa was fastest ahead of Robert Kubica ( BMW Sauber ) and Räikkönen. In the last part of the qualification, Raikkonen surprisingly took pole position. Alonso finished second in front of his home crowd and was thus able to prevent a complete front row. Massa was third fastest.
run
The Scuderia Ferrari took a double victory at the Spanish Grand Prix. Kimi Raikkonen won ahead of Felipe Massa ahead of Lewis Hamilton .
The race had started turbulent, with a safety car phase right at the beginning, because Adrian Sutil ( Force India-Ferrari ) attacked a competitor in the fray of the first lap and stood across the track from the innocent Sebastian Vettel ( Toro Rosso-Ferrari ) was rammed. This meant that the first two Germans were out of the race. At the restart, Raikkonen stayed in the lead ahead of Massa and local hero Fernando Alonso .
The safety car was used a second time: Heikki Kovalainen came off the track on lap 22 in a right turn at over 200 km / h and crashed into the tire wall at a relatively frontal angle. The fault was a tire defect. His McLaren-Mercedes dug deep into the barrier. The McLaren driver only suffered a concussion in this accident . There was a curious scene during the safety car phase around Rubens Barrichello ( Honda ), who collided with Giancarlo Fisichella (Force India-Ferrari) in the pit lane and lost his front wing in the process. In his 256th Grand Prix, Barrichello initially headed for the pit lane again, but then gave up a little later.
For Alonso, the home race was over on lap 34 due to technical problems. Räikkönen and Massa finished the entire race in 1st and 2nd place without any problems. Lewis Hamilton finished third. The fastest race lap was Raikkonen in 1: 21.670 min.
Registration list
1 McLaren-Mercedes automatically fell to the bottom of the team ranking due to a penalty as a result of the espionage affair.
