The SA08 was based on a revised chassis of the Honda RA107 , which was used by Honda Racing with little success in the 2007 Formula 1 World Championship . The engine was also provided by Honda, the tires came from Bridgestone.

Painting and sponsorship

The base coat was white with numerous red accents. Honda and Bridgestone sponsor stickers were affixed to the vehicle.

driver

The driver pairing remained unchanged from the previous year. Went to the start Takuma Satō and Anthony Davidson . James Rossiter was named as test driver .

2008 season

Since the summer of 2007, Super Aguri had big financial problems because the sponsor SS United did not provide any more money. For a long time it was not clear whether the team would even be able to compete in the 2008 season. Honda enabled the team to compete in the Australian Grand Prix . Due to the tight financial resources, however, the team was only able to drive a few test kilometers so that they were not competitive.

The season opener in Australia didn't go well for Super Aguri, both drivers were eliminated. In the following race in Malaysia Davidson reached the finish in 15th position, followed by his teammate Satō. The team was satisfied with these placements. Both drivers crossed the finish line at the third race of the season. However, the financial situation had not improved. Efforts to find new investors had meanwhile failed. After the negotiations with the most promising investor Magma failed, a start at the Spanish Grand Prix was questioned. In the end, the team started and they achieved the best result of the season to date with a 13th place for Satō.

At the Turkish Grand Prix Super Aguri did not go to the start. The team was forbidden from entering the paddock because there were doubts as to whether the vehicles would even be able to start. As a result, the team announced the exit from the Formula 1 World Championship.
