James Rossiter (born August 25, 1983 in Oxford ) is a British racing driver . He competed in the Super Formula and Super GT from 2013 to 2015 .

Career

Rossiter began his motorsport career in karting in 1998 , where he was active until 2000. In 2002 he entered formula racing . He started for Falcon Motorsport in the British Formula Renault and finished 13th in the drivers' championship. In 2003 Rossiter stayed in the British Formula Renault and competed for Fortec Motorsport . He won a race and improved to third place overall. Internally, he prevailed against Mike Conway with 347 to 312 points .

Rossiter stayed with Fortec Motorsport in 2004 and switched to the British Formula 3 championship . He won three races and finished the season behind Nelson Piquet Jr. and Adam Carroll in third place in the drivers' championship. He also took part in two Formula 3 individual events each for Fortec Motorsport and Signature . Fourth places in the Formula 3 Masters and the Bahrain Superprix were his best results. In addition, Rossiter was a participant in a driver evaluation of the Formula 1 racing team British American Racing . He prevailed against six competitors with two other drivers and took part in Formula 1 test drives for the first time at the end of the year. In 2005 Rossiter switched to Signature Plus in the Formula 3 Euro Series . He achieved his first victory on the first race weekend at Hockenheim . He finished the season in seventh place and was one point less than his teammate Loïc Duval . He was also signed to British American Racing as a Formula 1 test driver in 2005 .

In 2006 Rossiter received a cockpit at Pons Racing in the Formula Renault 3.5 . With a second place as the best result, he finished the season in 14th place overall. In addition, he remained a Formula 1 test driver with the racing team, which had since been taken over and renamed by Honda . In 2007 Rossiter refrained from racing. He initially remained a Honda Formula 1 test driver and switched to the Honda-supported Super Aguri racing team as a test driver during the season . In 2008 Rossiter remained a Formula 1 test driver with Super Aguri. He also made his debut in the endurance scene and took part in three races in the American Le Mans Series (ALSM) for Andretti Green Racing . He achieved the first overall victory for Andretti Green Racing in Detroit together with Franck Montagny . Rossiter finished 22nd in the LMP2 drivers' championship.

In 2009 and 2010 Rossiter did not complete any races. For the 2010 Formula 1 World Championship he was in negotiations with the US F1 team , a new racing team. However, US F1 did not make it into the starting field, so Rossiter broke off negotiations before the start of the season. Rossiter then tried to get a cockpit for the IndyCar Series IndyCar Series 2010 and he completed the pre-season test drives for KV Racing Technology . However, the cockpit was eventually given to Mario Moraes .

In 2011 Rossiter received a works contract with the automobile manufacturer Lotus . He was a test driver for the Lotus-sponsored IndyCar team KV Racing Technology and completed six races in the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC) for the Lotus-sponsored Jetalliance Racing Team . As part of this, he made his debut in 2011 at the Le Mans 24-hour race . In 2012 Rossiter received a cockpit in the newly established FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), which emerged from the ILMC. His friend Kevin Weeda found him and himself a place in the Kodewa team, which is supported by Lotus . Weeda and Rossiter took part in six of eight races with alternating team-mates and ended the season with ninth place as the best result in 44th place in the drivers' world championship. At the end of the year he took part in DTM test drives for Audi . However, there was no engagement in the series.

At the beginning of 2013 , Rossiter took part in Formula 1 test drives for Force India , for which he had already completed simulator work in 2012, and was test driver for the racing team this year. Rossiter then moved to Japan and put his main focus on his involvement with the Lexus Team Petronas TOM’S in the Super GT . He formed a driver duo with Kazuki Nakajima . The two won two races and finished third in the drivers' championship. In addition, Rossiter represented André Lotterer in three Super Formula races for Petronas Team TOM'S in 2013 . In addition, Rossiter competed again in 2013 with Weeda for Lotus / Kodewa in the FIA ​​World Endurance Championship. Rossiter took part in four of eight races and was 39th in the drivers' world championship.

In 2014 Rossiter received a full-time cockpit in the Super Formula at Kondō Racing . At the season opener in Suzuka , he achieved his first podium finish in second place. He finished the season in sixth place. Rossiter stayed with TOM'S in the Super GT. Nakajima and Ryō Hirakawa shared the seat next to him . Rossiter won two races together with Nakajima and, like last year, achieved third place in the overall standings. In addition, he went to two WEC races for Lotus / Kodewa and finished the drivers' world championship in 25th place. In 2015 Rossiter stayed with Kondō Racing in the Super Formula. He finished the season in twelfth place overall. In the Super GT, Rossiter completed his third season for TOM'S in 2015 and Daisuke Itō became his new team-mate. With one win, the two finished seventh in the drivers' championship.
