US F1 team

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The US F1 Team was an American motorsport project based in Charlotte , North Carolina , which had been planning to participate in the Formula 1 World Championship from 2010 onwards since spring 2009 and was officially confirmed as a participant by the FIA . After rumors of the project's failure increased at the beginning of 2010, the temporary cessation of operations in Charlotte was finally announced on March 2nd and a start in the 2010 season was excluded.

history

One of the initiators of the USF1 project: Peter Windsor

The founders of the US F1 project were the American racing engineer Ken Anderson , who held the position of team boss, and the British motorsport journalist and former Williams team manager Peter Windsor , who was supposed to act as sports director. Both had many years of experience in motorsport.

US F1 was to make its debut in Bahrain as one of four new teams , alongside Campos Grand Prix , Virgin Racing and Lotus Racing , and was the first Formula 1 team to compete with a US license since Team Haas ( 1985 and 1986 ). The team's engine supplier was the British manufacturer Cosworth , which is back in Formula 1 for the first time since 2006. The racing car was to be developed by US F1 itself. On January 25, 2010, José María López was announced as the first driver for the 2010 season on the official website. After weeks of speculation about the possible failure of the project, López terminated this contract.

Ken Anderson initially hoped to only skip the first races of the year and start with the team in the middle of the season. In February 2010, he offered the FIA the deposit of a security deposit. However, the FIA did not accept this offer. The entry list published on March 3, 2010 did not contain an entry of the US F1 team.

After the cessation of operations at the beginning of March 2010, team boss Anderson said that he hoped to get his project started in 2011, but according to press reports, the team was finally disbanded in June 2010 and the inventory was auctioned off. In response, the FIA withheld the 2010 season registration fee as a penalty and banned the team from all FIA competitions forever.
