Mario Moraes
Mario Ermírio de Moraes Filho (born December 20, 1988 in São Paulo ) is a former Brazilian racing driver and a grandson of the Brazilian entrepreneur Antônio Ermírio de Moraes .
Career
Moraes began his motorsport career in karting in 2000 , where he was active until 2003. Then his change took place in the Formula racing and he made his debut in the US Formula Renault . After a season in the United States, Moraes moved to the South American Formula 3 Championship , where he competed for two seasons. After eighth place in the first season, he won the 2006 runner-up in this series behind Luiz Razia . He also started as a guest driver for Carlin Motorsport in four races in the national class of the British Formula 3 Championshipof which he could win two. He recommended himself with his performance for a cockpit in the British Formula 3 championship, which he received for the 2007 season with Carlin Motorsport. However, he did not make the breakthrough this season and finished 14th overall as the worst driver of his team.
In 2008 Moraes returned to America and was to receive a cockpit at Dale Coyne Racing in the Champ Car . After the Champ Car series was dissolved and incorporated into the IndyCar Series , Moraes kept his cockpit at Dale Coyne Racing, which also competed in the IndyCar Series. At the end of the season, Moraes finished 21st overall and was exactly one place behind his experienced team-mate and compatriot Bruno Junqueira . In 2009 the Brazilian stayed in the IndyCar Series and switched to KV Racing Technology . With a third place on the Chicagoland Speedway as the best result, she finished 14th in the overall classification. In 2010 Moraes stayed with KV Racing and played his third season in the IndyCar Series. After the second race, the Brazilian had to undergo head surgery because he was diagnosed with a cyst near an ear canal . In Watkins Glen he achieved his best placement of the season with a fifth place. At the end of the season he finished 15th overall.
