Hervé Rozoum (born October 4, 1955 in Paris ) is a French guitarist , composer , arranger and producer .

Life

The son of emigrated Ukrainian Russians was trained as a solo violinist at the Paris Conservatory at the age of five . Just a year later he had his first stage appearance. The musical revolution of the 1960s and especially the Rolling Stones and the Beatles prompted Hervé Rozoum to swap his violin for the electric guitar at the age of 13 in order to emulate his idols. After graduating from high school , he studied philosophy and psychological science .

When he appeared as a guest musician with the band "The Frenchies" in Bataclan at the age of 17 , the actor Jean-Pierre Kalfon noticed him. He introduced Hervé to the singer, Jacques Higelin . This took Hervé under his wing and advised him to found his own band . The band Trans Europe Express (TEE) was born.

The band's first long-playing record (including listening to a ballad dedicated to the singer Inga Rumpf ) was a rock album that was sung in English and well received by the press . TEE has received praise from specialist magazines and the “ Liberation ” newspaper founded by Jean-Paul Sartre . Then the band's first appearance took place in the Paris “ Olympia ”. 3 years followed during which TEE toured France .

Two further albums and several decoupled singles radio and television shows , articles in rock magazines and photos of the band on the covers of magazines made Trans Europe Express one of the most renowned bands in France during the 1970s.

A newly introduced quota system , which only allows a limited number of foreign-language artists in the French media , curtailed TEE's performance opportunities and thus ushered in the end of the band.

The 1980s

In Germany , where Rozoum had spent part of his childhood , the era of the " New German Wave " began. To take part in this new trend, Hervé moved to Hamburg . Meanwhile, his manager, Bobbi Bruno, used the contacts and knowledge he gained with TEE to make the band “ Trust ” the most popular band in France in the 80s. After a short time in Hamburg, Rozoum worked as a studio musician and composer for Warner-Chappell Verlag. There he worked with Kuno Dreysse for several years . As a singer he recorded "La Poupée", a song by Michel Polnareff . This was co-produced by Adrian Askew, who was a former keyboardist at Atlantis and Lake , among others . The single was unsuccessful. As a guitarist, Hervé Rozoum played and produced with Teddy Ibing ( Truck Stop ), Joachim Witt , Kiev Stingl , Johnny and the Hurricanes , Linda Fields, among others .

In 1983 he became a member of the " Big Balls and the Great White Idiot ", a post-punk formation. With the "Balls" he recorded several albums and singles and went on tour through Germany and France.

During a tour of the play “Voll auf der Rolle” initiated by the Goethe-Institut , Hervé Rozoum met the actor and singer Jan Fedder . At the beginning of 2000 Fedder asked him to accompany some of his concerts as a guitarist. This was followed by a tour through Germany's theaters with Barbara Bilabel's musical "Babylon" and the actor Michael Schönborn, produced by the Hamburger Schauspielhaus .

The German guitar company Hoyer signed an advertising and promotion contract with Rozoum and built guitars for his needs, with which he performed on this tour. For NDR he presented the TV documentary “The musical instruments and their story” about the electric guitar, made a film and also worked as a voice actor .

When the English rock band "The Gypsies" lost their guitarist during a European tour due to a dispute, he was hired and learned the entire repertoire on the way to the next concert in the band bus . The Gypsies tour ended in London , where Hervé initially lived with lead singer Paul Ekness from Toronto . Hervé Rozoum and Paul Ekness decided to found the "Gunslingers". The band's career began in London and continued in Hamburg, where the Gunslingers recorded their first album ("For my mom"). The Stern magazine and Bravo praised the quality of this project . “For my mom” is Rock Hard Magazine's album of the month and was in the UK charts for a few weeks .

The single “St. Pauli ”became an anthem in Hamburg and is included on a compilation by the record company Metronome about the most beautiful songs that Hamburg sing about, between Hans Albers and Freddy Quinn . The Gunslingers performed at the Millerntor in the St. Pauli Stadium, played daily for several months in the play "Der Aufänger" with Andrea Werner, Michael Weber and Christoph Finger, among others. The band toured England , France, Italy and Germany.

1990s

Hervé and Pauls' Gunslingers had settled in Berlin and recruited a new backing band. They spent a year in the studio for their new album (with, among others, friend and sound designer Riccardo van Krugten, Jocelyn B. Smith and Eena - later, Luci van Org , singer of the band Lucilectric - as background singers).

Meanwhile, Aerosmith were back in business and the Gunslingers were accused of copying Guns N 'Roses . Paul Ekness returned to Toronto , disappointed with the record companies , where he had become a father.

As a guitarist, Hervé Rozoum worked with Nina Hagen and Bernward Büker, among others . He produced music for Martin Semmelrogge and on behalf of Toni Krahl he worked as a producer for André Herzberg and the Inchtabokatables .

In 1994 the Friedrich Kurz musical spectacle "Shakespeare & Rock 'n' Roll" premiered in the Musical Theater Berlin. Rozoum was the first guitarist and co-arranger and stood on stage with John Davies , Stevie Woods , Gitte Hænning , Taco , and Udo Lindenberg . He played the Rocky Horror Show more than 1000 times in Berlin and Munich , toured at galas where he played the best of Cats , Starlight Express , Jesus Christ Superstar , Grease . During this time Rozoum is under contract with the guitar company Gibson and promotes their product.
