Hoyer is a brand name for guitars and electric basses .

The brand goes back to the guitar manufacture founded by Franz Hoyer in Schönbach / Egerland (now the Czech Republic ) in 1874 . In 1945 the workshop was re-established by his son Arnold Hoyer in Tennenlohe near Erlangen and from 1967 - after Arnold's death and the takeover of the company by his son Walter A. Hoyer - concentrated mainly on the production of electric , semi-acoustic and western guitars as well as E. -Bass . Their product catalog includes such obscure creations as the Foldaxe (a foldable electric guitar) invented by Roger Field , or the Dobrobass , but also the famous “Herr im Frack” percussion guitar. In 1987 production was given up.

In 2005, the German music wholesaler Michael Compernass took over the trademark rights of the company, now trading as Hoyer Guitars eK , based in Dorsten, and in 2009 awarded the international distribution rights to the English entrepreneur Michael Ritter. The brand has been represented internationally by Ritter USA LLC , based in New York, since 2012 .
