KV Racing Technology is a team of the IndyCar Series .

history

The team was founded in 2003 as PK Racing by businessman Kevin Kalkhoven and former Formula 1 manager Craig Pollock from the remnants of the disbanded PacWest Racing . The team competed in the Champ Car series, whose founding father and owner was Kalkhoven among others. For the 2004 season , 1996 CART champions Jimmy Vasser and businessman Dan Pettit joined as new partners, while Pollock left the team. As a result, the team was now called PKV Racing . The only race win in the team's Champ Car history was reserved for Cristiano da Matta in Portland 2005 .

After the merger of the Champ Car with the Indy Cars , Pettit left the team, giving rise to the name KV Racing Technology . Oriol Servià follows the team into the new series, with Will Power , another former champ car driver joined the team. For the farewell race of the Champ Cars in Long Beach , Jimmy Vasser drove another race that Power could win. At the end of the team's first Indy Car season, they were the most successful of the former Champ Car teams and Oriol Servià was the best placed changer in the Champ Car series.

Paul Tracy drove a few races for the team in 2009 and 2010

In the following years 2009 and 2010 the driver crew changed. Mario Moraes was a single contender for most of the 2009 season, with third place in Chicagoland being his best result. Takuma Sato and EJ Viso joined as additional drivers for the 2010 season, with Sato also able to achieve a podium position. In both years Paul Tracy was also active in the team for individual races.

For the 2011 season , KV entered into a partnership with Lotus , which wanted to prepare as an engine supplier from the 2012 season. Initially only a sponsor in 2009, Lotus expanded its commitment to a technical partnership in 2010. Sato and Viso stayed on board while Tony Kanaan made a prominent signing in a third car. It was also Kanaan who set the highlights of this season, he was able to take three podiums and he finished fifth in the overall standings.

The 2012 season started with the introduction of the new IndyCar and the entry of other engine manufacturers . KV switched to Chevrolet as an engine partner, which meant that Takuma Sato had to leave the team. The Japanese is in a partnership with Honda and should continue to ride for a Honda team. However, KV managed to sign another ex-Formula 1 driver. Rubens Barrichello , a very good friend of Kanaan's, drove for the team this season. In addition to the two Brazilians, Viso also stayed on board. But it was again Kanaan who was the only driver on the team to take the podium.

For the 2013 season left Viso and Barrichello to the team. Viso initially wanted to set up his own team, but then switched to Andretti Autosport . Barrichello moved to Stock Car Brasil . KV Racing Technology reduced its team to two vehicles and hired Simona de Silvestro , who had driven for HVM Racing for the past three years . Kanaan won the Indianapolis 500 in 2013 , making KV Racing Technology the winner of that race for the first time. De Silvestro achieved her first podium finish in Houston with a second place.
