Say Karam
Sage Karam (born March 5, 1995 in Bethlehem , Pennsylvania ) is an American racing driver . He won the Indy Lights in 2013 . He has been competing in individual races in the IndyCar Series since 2014 .
Career
Karam began his motorsport career in karting in 2004 , where he was active until 2009. In 2009 he also made his debut in formula racing . He immediately finished third in the Skip Barber National Championship . In 2010 he received a contract with Andretti Autosport and was initially used in the US F2000 National Championship . He won nine out of twelve races and was only off the podium in one race in which he did not finish. He achieved pole position in eleven races. Karam was by a large margin champion and won the title bonus of 350,000 US dollars. In 2011 Karam stayed with Andretti Autosport and started in the Star Mazda Series . He won two oval races and was fifth overall with four podium finishes. In 2012 Karam played his second season in the Star Mazda Series for Andretti Autosport. He won three races and was on the podium ten times. In the overall standings, he improved to third place.
In 2013 Karam Andretti left Autosport and moved to Schmidt Peterson Motorsports in Indy Lights . Karam won three races and was on the podium a total of nine times. Karam managed to win the championship title right in his debut season. With 460 to 449 points, he prevailed against his teammate Gabby Chaves .
In 2014 Karam did not find a permanent cockpit. He took part in four races of the United SportsCar Championship (USCC) for Chip Ganassi Racing . He was 23rd in the Prototype ranking. He also competed for Dreyer and Reinbold - Kingdom Racing at the Indianapolis 500 and made his debut in the IndyCar Series . He finished in ninth place. In 2015 Karam competed for Chip Ganassi Racing in the first race of the IndyCar Series and finished 19th in the process. He then received a part-time cockpit at the racing team for the rest of the season. He shares the cockpit with Sebastián Saavedra , who took over the vehicle in four races. In Fontana , Karam finished fifth in the top five for the first time. Two weeks later he achieved his first podium finish in Newton with third place. At the penultimate race of the season in Pocono , Karam turned into the boundary wall on lap 180 of 200 while in the lead. One of the flying parts of Karam's vehicle front hit Justin Wilson, who was lying further back in the field, on the head. He died one day later from serious head injuries. Karam finished the season in 20th place overall. He also raced for Chip Ganassi Racing in the 2015 United SportsCar Championship .
For the IndyCar Series 2016 , Karam only found one engagement for the Indianapolis 500 . As on his debut, he drove for DRR-Kingdom Racing. Karam finished 32nd in the race and in the overall IndyCar standings. In 2017 he drove a full season in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for 3GT Racing in the GT Daytona class. He finished 15th
