Spencer Pigot
Spencer Pigot (born September 29, 1993 in Pasadena , California ) is an American racing driver . In 2014 he won the Pro Mazda Championship and in 2015 the Indy Lights .
Career
Pigot began his motorsport career in karting in 2004 , where he remained active until 2009. He won several kart championships in Florida . In 2009 Pigot also made his debut in formula racing and took part in three races of the Skip Barber National Championship . 2010 Pigot stayed in the Skip Barber National Championship and won the championship title. He also took part in several Formula Ford individual events and the Ontario Formula Ford.
In 2011 Pigot moved to the US F2000 National Championship at Andretti Autosport . He first went to the winter series, the Cooper Tires Winterfest . He won two out of five races and was second overall with 113 to 119 points behind his teammate Zach Veach . In the main series that followed, Pigot won three races and was on the podium eight times. With 281 to 328 points he was defeated by Petri Suvanto and finished second. With that he prevailed internally against Veach, who finished fourth with 223 points. Pigot also took part in three British Formula Ford races as a guest starter in 2011 and competed in Formula Ford individual races as well as races in SCCA racing series. In 2012 Pigot moved to Cape Motorsports within the US F2000 National Championship . Pigot initially won the winter series with five wins from six races. In the main series he managed to win more than half of all races with eight wins from fourteen races, but in the championship he was defeated by his teammate Matthew Brabham with 332 to 339 points and was again second.
In 2013 Pigot moved to Team Pelfrey in the Pro Mazda Championship . He won one race and finished a total of five races on the podium. He finished the season in fourth place in the drivers' championship. In addition, he competed for the West-Tec F3 team in Europe for two races of the European F3 Open . In addition, he took part in four races of the Canadian Porsche GT3 Cup in GT racing and won one race. In 2014 Pigot contested his second season of the Pro Mazda Championship for Juncos Racing . First he won the Winterfest with 118 to 92 points against Scott Hargrove . He then drove in the main series. He won the first four races of the season and won two more races during the season. Pigot won the championship against Hargrove here too. He prevailed with 309 to 299 points. In addition, Pigot drove again in the Canadian Porsche GT3 Cup, where he achieved third place in the drivers' championship.
In 2015 Pigot stayed with Juncos Racing and received a cockpit in the Indy Lights . He won both races in Birmingham , Toronto and Laguna Seca . In 16 races he reached 10 podium finishes. Pigot prevailed against Jack Harvey with 357 to 330 points and won the championship. Pigot also took part in test drives in the IndyCar Series for Penske .
For the IndyCar Series 2016 , Pigot received a part-time cockpit at Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing . The engagement included three races: the season opener and both races in Indianapolis . Subsequently, Ed Carpenter Racing signed Pigot as a driver for the seven remaining races on the street circuits. He shared the cockpit with team owner Ed Carpenter , who only competed in the oval races. Seventh place in Lexington was Pigot's best result of the season. He finished the season in 21st place overall. In addition to his IndyCar engagement, he was used by Mazda in the endurance races of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship from 2017 to 2019 . In 2018 he was one of the fastest 9 in qualifying for the Indianapolis 500 , who took pole position among themselves. He started from sixth place and finished the race in 20th place. At the Newton race , he got his best result with a second place. He finished 14th in the drivers' championship. In 2019 he qualified for third place on the grid at the Indianapolis 500. He finished the race in 14th place. With two fifth places as the best results, he finished the season in 14th place.
