Jonathan Bomarito (born January 23, 1982 in Monterey , California ) is an American racing car driver .

Career

After some successes in karting and a two-year engagement in the Grand-Am Cup, Bomarito switched to the US F2000 Championship USA in 2003 and immediately won the title in the series. The next year he competed in the Atlantic Championship and was ninth at the end of the season. In his second season (2006) he finally won his first race and finished fifth in the overall standings. He was able to achieve this championship placement in 2007, and he also scored a victory in San José . In 2008 he finally became runner-up, and this season he also had three wins. He also took part in the Daytona 24-hour race in 2005, 2008 and 2009 .

In 2010, Bomarito became a permanent fixture in the Rolex Sports Car Series and drove a Mazda RX-8 in the GT class. He has two wins (one of which was a Daytona 24 Hours) and five podiums. These achievements brought him fourth place in the championship standings. In the following two years he was twice fifth in the overall classification, each with one win and 4 podiums. In 2012 he also took part in the Petit Le Mans with a Dodge Viper GTS .

In 2013 he achieved the status of an SRT factory driver in the American Le Mans Series . His emergency vehicle was an SRT Viper GTS-R, and his teammate was Kuno Wittmer. The two of them were able to achieve two podiums, which in the end brought them 13th place overall in the GT class. They also competed, together with Tommy Kendall, in the 24 Hours of Le Mans , where they finished ninth in their class. Bomarito stayed with the team in the 2014 season, now in the United SportsCar Championship . Together with Wittmer, who was still at his side as a teammate, he was able to achieve two victories: one at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and one at the Circuit of the Americas .
