run

Kimi Raikkonen won the race

The second race of the 2008 season was won by Kimi Raikkonen ahead of Robert Kubica and Heikki Kovalainen .

Raikkonen got off to a good start and after a few meters was tied with pole setter Felipe Massa (Ferrari), but to avoid a collision within the team, he slacked off. Behind them were Kubica, Mark Webber (Red Bull Renault) and Lewis Hamilton (McLaren-Mercedes). The first retirement was Sébastien Bourdais : At turn six he drove his Toro Rosso Ferrari into the gravel trap with a driving error. Timo Glock also dropped out after the first lap after a collision with Nico Rosberg . The two Ferrari drivers exchanged places on the 18th lap. Massa came to the pit stop before his team-mate. Raikkonen took advantage of this. He drove a fast time on the same lap and had enough lead to get back out onto the track ahead of Massa.

Massa was eliminated after a spin in the 30th lap.

Nick Heidfeld drove the fastest race lap in 1: 35.366 min.

In the world championship, after two of 18 races this year, Hamilton led with 14 points ahead of Raikkonen, Heidfeld (11 each), Kovalainen (10) and Kubica (8). Among the constructors, the Silver Arrows lost no point on Ferrari and only one point on BMW Sauber, so McLaren-Mercedes (24) continued to lead ahead of BMW Sauber (19) and Ferrari (11). Williams-Toyota dropped from second to fourth place.
