The Ferrari F14 T was the 47th Formula 1 race car of the Scuderia Ferrari . The team contested the 2014 Formula 1 World Championship with the vehicle .
designation
The car was presented in Maranello on January 25, 2014 .
The name of the car was made up of the combination of the year and the abbreviation for turbocharger , and it also corresponded to the Fiat lettering in Leetspeak . Before the presentation, Ferrari made several suggestions available, among which the fans could choose the name of the vehicle by means of internet voting. The designation F14 T received the most votes with 369,711.
Technology and development
The F14 T is the successor model of the F138 , although the vehicle is visually and technically significantly different from the previous model due to rule changes for the 2014 Formula 1 season .
Due to the rule changes for the 2014 season, the nose of the vehicle was significantly lower than that of the vehicle from the previous year. Ferrari continued to use a relatively high chassis in the 2014 season, which is why the front section of the vehicle bent further down at the level of the front suspension than on other vehicles. The front wing was suspended from two struts that were relatively far apart.
The F14 T is powered by the newly developed Ferrari type 059/3 , a 1.6-liter V6 engine with a turbocharger . Due to the regulations, there was only one central exhaust pipe that was above the rear light.
As with the previous models, Ferrari also used a tension strut suspension on the front axle of the F14 T. A new brake system was also developed in collaboration with Brembo , which now uses smaller brake calipers. In addition, an electronic brake pedal, a so-called brake-by-wire , was used for the first time in Formula 1 .
During the season, the team experimented several times with a system in which air was directed through the front axle to the wheel hub in order to improve the airflow around the front wheels. In the middle of the season, however, this was given up as the system did not have the desired effect.
Painting and sponsorship
The F14 T was mainly painted in classic red, with a white stripe along the entire length of the car and a wide black stripe underneath. Behind the cockpit these rose far upwards, so that the rear part of the engine cover was completely black. Major sponsors visible on the car were Hublot , Kaspersky Lab , Santander , UPS and Shell .
driver
Ferrari competed in 2014 with the driver duo Fernando Alonso and Kimi Räikkönen . Räikkönen, who had already driven for Ferrari from 2007 to 2009, came from Lotus and replaced Felipe Massa , who left the team after eight seasons and switched to Williams .
