The Toro Rosso STR9 was the ninth Formula 1 - racing cars of the Scuderia Toro Rosso . It was used in the 2014 Formula 1 season . It was presented to the public on January 27, 2014 at the Circuito de Jerez .
Technology and development
The STR9 was the successor model of the STR8 , although the vehicle differed significantly from the previous model, both visually and technically due to rule changes for the 2014 Formula 1 season . Only the pedals were taken from the previous vehicle, all other parts were new.
Due to the rule changes for the 2014 season, the nose of the vehicle was significantly lower than that of the vehicle from the previous year. Compared to other vehicles of the 2014 season, the STR9 had a relatively high front section, plus a nose that protruded far forward over the front wing. This tapered very strongly at the level of the wing, similar to the Sauber C33 .
In contrast to all other 2014 vehicles, the STR9 did not have a strut in the middle of the rear wing to support the main element, but the upper wing profile was supported solely by the end plates.
Toro Rosso changed the engine manufacturer for the 2014 season. After working with Ferrari for seven years , Renault supplied the engines , just like the sister team Red Bull Racing . The STR9 was powered by the newly developed Renault Energy F1 2014 , a 1.6-liter V6 engine with a turbocharger . Due to the regulations, there was only one central exhaust pipe that was above the rear light. The ERS also came from Renault, the inner workings of the eight-speed transmission came from Red Bull Racing.
Painting and sponsorship
The Toro Rosso STR9 is painted in a dark blue basic color. Due to the sponsor logos of Cepsa and Red Bull , the car has red accents. Cepsa advertises on the rear wing, Red Bull on the engine cover and side pods. Other major sponsors are NOVA Chemicals and Sapinda Holding .

Toro Rosso contested the 2014 season with the driver duo Jean-Éric Vergne and Daniil Kwjat . Vergne was playing his third season for the team. Kwjat won the GP3 series last year and replaced Daniel Ricciardo , who moved to sister racing team Red Bull Racing .
