history
The company was founded in 1953. NOVA was headquartered in Calgary for a long time until then-CEO Jeffrey Lipton relocated to Pittsburgh in the 1990s . This was done to be closer to the customers from the USA, the hoped-for benefits from this move have never materialized. Since then the headquarters have been moved back to Calgary. In 2009, Prime Minister Ed Stelmach refused to help with a rescue operation and the Province of Alberta felt offended. Due to the financial crisis and recession between 2007 and 2009, as well as NOVA's heavy debt burden, which was not reduced during high-volume periods, the company was on the verge of bankruptcy until the investor International Petroleum Investment Company joined the company.
