Ward Howell

Henry Wardwell Howell (born January 27, 1910 in Sewickley , Pennsylvania , † August 30, 1980 in Cooperstown , New York ) founded Ward Howell Associates, Inc. in 1951 as one of the first to focus solely on the executive search sector (see above) called direct search for executives) oriented consulting companies. He headed the company from its founding in 1951 until 1974.

Career

Ward Howell grew up in the small town of Sewickley, the son of Rosalie and Alleyne Howell. From 1928 he studied at Yale University , which he graduated in 1932 with the so-called AB Degree (comparable to the Bachelor ). In the same year he married Margaret Grant Noyes.

Act

In 1932 he began his professional career at the New York investment bank Bonbright & Co. , Where he rose to the management position. From 1944 to 1945 Howell was managing director of Trade Consulting, Washington, DC From 1945 to 1947 he was managing director of the import and export company Middle East Co. in Cairo. In 1948 he became managing director of the personnel placement department (executive search) at McKinsey , where he left in 1951. In 1952 he founded Ward Howell Associates Inc. and Howell-American Corporation in New York, of which he became president. With the establishment of Ward Howell International followed the establishment of foreign branches.

In 1974 Ward Howell sold his shares in the group of companies to his partners and in September of the same year handed over the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to his successor, Max Ulrich. From 1998 to 2013 Ward Howell International operated globally under Signium International - since 2013 both names have existed in parallel: Ward Howell positioned itself more broadly, while Signium continued as before. Despite the separation and the change of some partners, both consultancies are considered to be the world's leading personnel consultancy. Ward Howell today has 25 offices in 21 countries. The first German branch was set up in Düsseldorf in 1978. The chairman's seat is here.

Part of the former Ward Howell International has been operating under the name of Ward Howell in Russia since 1993.
