Gran Premio de Penya Rhin
The Gran Premio de Penya Rhin ( Penya Rhin Grand Prix ) was an international automobile race that was held a total of 15 times in Spain between 1916 and 1954 .
The race was held for the first time after the First World War and took place on a 14.791 km long track in Vilafranca del Penedès . Between 1921 and 1923 it was advertised for the Voiturette category.
After a nine-year break, the Gran Premio de Penya Rhin was held on the Circuit de Montjuïc in Barcelona from 1933 to 1936 and was open to Grand Prix vehicles. He pulled the internationally dominant German and Italian factory teams with their top drivers, but never was one of the Grandes Epreuves of the international automobile sports federation AIACR advertised Grand Prix Championship .
After the Second World War , four editions of the Penya Rhin Grand Prix were held until 1954. The venue was the Circuit de Pedralbes , also in Barcelona. In 1946 and 1948 Grand Prix cars were again at the start. In 1950 the race for Formula 1 was advertised, but it did not have world championship status . The last Gran Premio de Penya Rhin was held in 1954 and was a sports car race .
