DHL Fastest Lap Award

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As part of the DHL Fastest Lap Award , the DHL Fastest Lap Trophy has been presented to the driver with the most fastest race laps in a season since the 2007 Formula 1 season .

history

Kimi Raikkonen won both 2007 and 2008 with six and ten fastest laps respectively. In the first year his team-mate Felipe Massa also achieved six fastest laps, both of them drove two second-fastest laps, but Raikkonen achieved one more than Massa with three third-fastest laps and won.

In 2009, both Sebastian Vettel and his team-mate Mark Webber achieved three fastest laps each during the season, so the winner had to be determined based on the second-fastest laps. Vettel achieved three second fastest laps; Webber, however, only one. So Vettel won.

In the 2010 season, Fernando Alonso won the trophy with five fastest laps, as he had more second fastest laps than Lewis Hamilton .

In 2011, Mark Webber was able to secure the title with seven fastest laps.

In 2012 and 2013 Sebastian Vettel was again the winner of this classification with six and seven fastest race laps respectively.

In 2014 Lewis Hamilton prevailed with seven to five fastest laps against his teammate Nico Rosberg , also in 2015 with eight to five fastest laps.

Rosberg won the 2016 ranking with six fastest laps. In 2017, Hamilton prevailed again, setting the fastest lap in seven races. With seven fastest race laps, Valtteri Bottas won the classification in 2018.

Since the 2019 season, the driver with the fastest race lap receives an additional point, which is also credited to his team in the constructors' championship. An additional requirement for this is a finish among the first ten drivers. There was an additional point for the fastest race lap between 1950 and 1959. In 2019 Lemis Hamilton won the classification for the fourth time with six fastest race laps.
