Roman Alexandrowitsch Russinow ( Russian Роман Александрович Русинов , scientific transliteration Roman Aleksandrovič Rusinov ; born October 21, 1981 in Moscow ) is a Russian automobile racing driver and son of Alexander Russinow, who took part in various rally raids .

Career

Beginnings in motorsport

Russinow began his career in karting in 1988 . In 1999 he switched to Formula Campus, which he was able to finish in tenth place in the championship. The following year Russinov drove in the French Formula Renault . In addition to his appearances in the national championship, in 2001 he also took part in some races of the Formula Renault European Cup. Russinow's best result came in 13th at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza in Italy . In 2002 he switched to Formula Palmer Audi and ended the season with seven podium finishes and one win at the Silverstone Circuit . At the end of the year he finished third behind Joel Nelson and Adrian Willmott . The following year he moved up to Formula 3000 , where he drove a Lola T99 / 50 for GP Racing . In qualifying for the first race of the year, Russinow took pole position. In the race, however, he could not build on the performance in training and finished sixth. In the following six championship races, he finished three in the top five, but fell out in the remaining races.

Le Mans Endurance Series and FIA-GT

In addition to his participation in Formula 3000, Russinow also drove in the 1000 km race at Le Mans in 2003. Together with Wim Eyckmans and Enrico Muscioni , he drove a Courage C65 for the French factory team and finished the race as class winner of the LMP675. The individual race in November 2004 culminated in the Le Mans Endurance Series , in which Russinov competed for JMB Racing in a Ferrari 360 . During the season he finished all runs in the points together with Stéphane Daoudi , Jaime Melo and Bert Longin . He also won the Silverstone 1000km race in its category. Since neither his direct competitors nor any of his three teammates took part in every championship run, he won the GT2 drivers' championship. His team JMB Racing , however, lost the team title to Sebah Motorsport . In 2005 Russinow stayed with JMB Racing , but switched to the FIA-GT with the team to drive a Maserati MC12 with Chris Buncombe . Both drivers finished the five races up to the race at the Automotodrom Brno in the points. Thereafter, both Russinow and Buncombe were replaced by constantly changing driver pairings by the end of the year. In 2008 he returned to both the FIA-GT and the Le Mans Series.

Together with Peter Kox , Russinov now drove a Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT in both racing series for the Russian team IPB Spartak Racing . While the driver duo finished in the top three of the GT1 classification in three of the five races of the Le Mans Series, they only achieved midfield positions in the FIA-GT. In 2009, the team around Russinow and Kox concentrated on the Le Mans Series. In the first race at the Circuit de Catalunya , the driver pairing won the GT1 category for the first time. For the race in Spa Russinow was replaced by the two Czechs Filip Salaquarda and Erik Janiš . The Lamborghini did not appear in the championship-independent race at Le Mans that was initially targeted. At the following race in Algarve , both the IPB Spartak Racing car and the newly developed GT2 Lamborghini, which was also developed by Reiter Engineering, were missing. Its driver Albert von Thurn und Taxis announced: “The LMS program, on the other hand, has actually ended for us in the Reiter team after an important Russian sponsor has withdrawn due to the current economic situation. Therefore the GT1 and also the GT2 will probably not be used any more for the time being. " Russinov himself was accommodated by Team Modena, another Le Mans Series team , for the 24 Hours of Le Mans . Together with Pierre Ehret and Leo Mansell , he crossed the finish line in seventh place in the GT2 category.

A1 Grand Prix

After the premature end of his involvement in the FIA-GT, Russinow drove for the Russian team in the 2005/2006 winter season . However, the team withdrew after three races because they lacked the necessary money. Alex Shnaider , a Russian-Canadian businessman who owns the MF1 Racing Team in Formula 1 , has the ambition to get a good Russian driver on his team in order to provide the first Russian Formula 1 driver in history. Russinow has already tested four times for MF1 Racing, but it has never been used. In 2008, Russinov said of his Formula 1 ambitions: "I'm not the son of a millionaire, and if you don't have enough money, it is almost impossible to get a cockpit in a monoposto ."

Other racing series

In addition to the Le Mans Series and the FIA-GT, Kox and Russinow contested three race weekends in the ADAC GT Masters in 2008 . The driver duo for Team Flatex Reiter won two of the six races, helping them to win the 2008 championship.
