The Mexico City E-Prix 2018 (officially: 2018 ABB FIA Formula E Mexico City E-Prix ) took place on March 3rd at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City and was the fifth race of the FIA Formula E Championship 2017/18 . It was the third Mexico City E-Prix.

After the Santiago E-Prix , Jean-Éric Vergne led the drivers' standings with five points ahead of Felix Rosenqvist and ten points ahead of Sam Bird . In the team standings, Techeetah was two points ahead of Mahindra Racing and 20 points ahead of DS Virgin .
With Jérôme D'Ambrosio and Lucas di Grassi , two former winners competed in this race.
Sébastien Buemi , di Grassi and Rosenqvist received a so-called FANBOOST , they were allowed to increase the output of their second vehicle once to up to 200 kW and thus use up to 100 kilojoules of additional energy. For Buemi and di Grassi it was the fourth FANBOOST this season. For Rosenqvist it was the first FANBOOST of his career.

In the first free practice, di Grassi was fastest with a lap time of 1: 01.158 minutes ahead of Edoardo Mortara and Vergne.
In the second free practice session, too, Grassi was fastest in 1: 01.203 minutes ahead of Rosenqvist and Mitch Evans . The training was interrupted by Alex Lynn after an accident .
Qualifying
Qualifying started at 12:00 p.m. and took place in four groups of five drivers each, each group had six minutes in which the drivers had a maximum of one timed lap with an output of 170 kW and then a maximum of one timed lap with an output of 200 kW were allowed to drive. Buemi was fastest with a lap time of 1: 01.668 minutes.
The five fastest drivers then drove in the first five positions in the individual time trial called Superpole . Rosenqvist secured pole position with a lap time of 1: 01.645 minutes and thus three points. The other positions were occupied by Lynn, Oliver Turvey , Buemi and António Félix da Costa , whose time was canceled due to falling below the minimum weight. With these three points, Mahindra also took the lead in the team standings.
Bird and his teammate Lynn were moved ten positions back because of a gearbox change. Di Grassi was also moved ten positions back because of a broken seal on the inverter of one of his two vehicles. Since it was not possible to completely relocate from twelfth position on the grid, the remaining penalty was converted into a five-second time penalty that di Grassi had to serve when changing vehicles.

The race lasted 47 laps.
Abt won the race ahead of Turvey and Buemi. It was the first victory for Abt in the FIA Formula E Championship. Turvey achieved his first podium finish in the FIA Formula E Championship, Buemi the third podium finish of the season. The remaining points standings occupied Nelson Piquet jr. , Vergne, Evans, Félix da Costa, Mortara, di Grassi and Lynn. The bonus point for the fastest lap of the top ten went to di Grassi.
Vergne extended his lead in the overall standings to Rosenqvist and Bird. In the team standings, Techeetah increased the gap on Mahindra, with Jaguar behind .
