The 2016 GP3 Series is the seventh season of the GP3 Series .

Rule changes

After three years with the GP3 / 13 chassis, Dallara introduced the GP3 / 16 chassis for the 2016 season . The new chassis is to be used for three years. The engine is supplied by Mecachrome . It's a 3.4 liter V6 engine with 400 horsepower.

The maximum number of vehicles a team can use has been increased from three to four.

Teams and drivers

All teams use the Dallara chassis Dallara GP3 / 16 , 3.4 liter V6 engines from Mecachrome and tires from Pirelli .

Changes in the teams

The two racing teams Carlin and Status Grand Prix , which had been active since the GP3 series was founded, withdrew from the championship. The places went to DAMS and Virtuosi Racing UK . However, Virtousi withdrew his report at the end of 2015, so that the number of teams fell from eight to seven.

Racing calendar

In 2016, nine race weekends will be held. All events take place as part of the Formula 1 Grand Prix weekends.

Rating

Point system

In the main race (HAU), the first ten of the race get 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 or 1 point (s). In the sprint race (SPR), the first eight of the race receive 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 or 1 point (s). In addition, the winner of the qualifying, who starts from pole position in the main race, receives four points. The driver who achieves the fastest lap of the first ten classified drivers receives two points.
