Nirei Fukuzumi ( Japanese 福 住 仁 嶺 , Fukuzumi Nirei ; born January 24, 1997 ) is a Japanese automobile racing driver . He will start in the FIA Formula 2 Championship and Super Formula in 2018 .

Career

Fukuzumi began his motorsport career in karting in 2010 , where he remained active until 2013. In 2014 he made his debut in formula racing and immediately won the Japanese Formula 4 West Championship . In 2015 Fukuzumi was signed by Honda and received a cockpit from their team, HFDP Racing, in the Japanese Formula 3 championship . At the second event in Motegi , he led every lap, winning both races. He finished the season in fourth place. In addition, he made a guest start in the Super GT for the Autobacs Racing Team Aguri and thus took part in a GT race for the first time.

In 2016 Fukuzumi switched to the GP3 series at ART Grand Prix in Europe with the support of Honda . He was on the podium three times, with a second place being his best result. He finished seventh in the drivers' championship, while his team-mate Charles Leclerc took overall victory. For the 2017 GP3 series , Fukuzumi stayed at ART Grand Prix. During the season he won two races and was third in the overall championship standings with 134 points.

In 2018 Fukuzumi competed in the FIA Formula 2 Championship with BWT Arden , where he finished 17th at the end of the season. At the same time, he started in the Japanese Super Formula , in which he will also compete in 2019.
