Antonio Fuoco (born May 20, 1996 in Cosenza ) is an Italian racing driver . He has been competing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship since 2017 .

Career

Fuoco began his motorsport career at the age of four in karting , where he remained active until 2012. Among other things, he was Italian KF3 runner-up in 2010 and third in the KF2-WSK Euro Series in 2012 and fourth in the CIK-FIA European Championship. In 2013 Fuoco entered formula racing . He was accepted into the Ferrari Driver Academy earlier this year after setting the new track record for a Formula Abarth on the Pista di Fiorano . Fuoco made his formula racing debut in the winter series of the Panam GP Series , which took place in North America. He won a race and was runner-up in that series. Subsequently, Fuoco received a cockpit for the Alpine Formula Renault with the Prema Powerteam . In this, Fuoco won six races, stood on the podium eleven times in 14 races and won the championship straight away. In addition, he made two guest starts in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup , where he achieved a pole position .

At the beginning of 2014 , Fuoco started again in North America and competed in the Florida Winter Series . Fuoco won four races and was the driver with the best individual placements. Then Fuoco returned to Europe and took part in the 2014 European Formula 3 Championship for the Prema Powerteam . He won a race at his season opener at Silverstone and finished fifth overall with another win and a total of ten podium finishes. His teammate Esteban Ocon won the championship title.

In 2015 Fuoco moved to Carlin in the GP3 series . With two second places as the best results, he finished the season as the best Carlin driver in sixth place overall. He also took part in Formula 1 test drives for Scuderia Ferrari for the first time . In 2016 Fuoco completed his second GP3 season for Trident . He won two races and was on the podium a total of eight times. He improved to third place in the championship.

In 2017 Fuoco received a cockpit at Prema Racing in the FIA Formula 2 championship . With one win and four third places achieved a total of five podium finishes. In the drivers' championship he finished eighth. In 2018 he switched to Charouz Racing System within Formula 2 . He won 2 races and finished the season in seventh place.
