Mahaveer Raghunathan
Mahaveer Raghunathan (born November 17, 1998 in Chennai ) is an Indian automobile racing driver . In 2019 Raghunathan started in the FIA Formula 2 Championship .
Career
Raghunathan began his motorsport career in karting in 2011 , where he remained active until 2013. In 2012 Raghunathan made his debut in formula racing and made four guest starts in the JK Racing Asia Series . In 2013 he drove in the MRF Challenge Formula 1600 and achieved sixth place overall. He also took part in three races of the Chinese Formula Masters . In 2014 Raghunathan moved to Europe and competed for F & M in the Italian Formula 4 championship . A fourth place in the championship standings was his best result. He finished the season in twelfth place overall, while his teammate Mattia Drudi finished second overall.
At the beginning of 2015, Raghunathan took part in a race of the MRF Challenge Formula 2000 in India . He then returned to Europe and was given a cockpit at Motopark Academy for the 2015 European Formula 3 Championship . He didn't appear at the last event and a 20th place was his best result. He also made two guest starts each in the Alpine Formula Renault and the Euroformula Open .
In the 2016 season, Raghunathan drove in the Auto GP for the Italian team PS Racing , led by Coloni . Besides Luis Michael Dörrbecker , he was the only driver who competed in every race. Raghunathan was second behind Dörrbecker with 151 to 222 points. As the races were partly held together with the Boss GP , Raghunathan was also rated here. With two podium finishes, he finished fifth in the formula class. In addition, Raghunathan took part in an event of the GP3 series for Koiranen GP .
In 2019 Raghunathan competed in the FIA Formula 2 Championship for MP Motorsport . He finished the season with just one point in 20th place. During the season he collected so many penalty points that despite being excluded from the race weekend in Spielberg, he achieved enough penalty points to be excluded a second time. The Mexican Patricio O'Ward took over his starting place in Austria , Raghunathan did not have to take the second penalty, as it was pronounced after the last training in Abu Dhabi . The regulations for the 2019 season provided for exclusion from racing for the following weekend, and penalty points are only valid for one season. As a result, the regulations for the 2020 season were changed so that racing exclusions are now also possible within a weekend. In addition, FIA President Jean Todt considered introducing a minimum number of super license points for the junior formula categories after Raghunathan's season . This is to prevent unqualified drivers from occupying cockpits.
A scene during training in Baku also attracted particular attention when Raghunathan failed to turn in the run-off zone without the help of the marshals.
