Giuliano Alesi (born September 20, 1999 in Avignon ) is a French racing driver . He has been competing in the Formula 2 series for Team Trident since 2019 , for which he previously competed in the GP3 series .

Career

Alesi began his motorsport career in karting in 2013 , where he remained active until 2014. 2015 Alesi moved to the single-seater racing in the 4-Championship Formula-French . On the Circuit de Lédenon , he managed to win his debut race in formula racing. In the further course of the first race weekend, he won another race. With a total of three wins Alesi ended his debut season on the fourth championship course. At the end of the year he also took part in an event of the MRF Challenge Formula 2000 .

In 2016 Alesi switched to the GP3 series at Trident . In addition, Alesi was accepted into the Scuderia Ferrari support program. He finished the season in 22nd place overall. In 2017 Alesi competed in his second GP3 season with Trident. There he drove successfully to 4th place in the drivers' championship. In 2018 he will be competing again for Trident in the GP3 series.

During the race at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps on August 31, 2019, he was involved in the fatal accident of Anthoine Hubert . At the corner exit of the Raidillon de l'Eau Rouge , Alesi lost control of his vehicle and collided with Hubert. Hubert's vehicle then crashed into the boundary of the route, was thrown back and stopped across the direction of travel at the edge of the route, where he was hit head-on by Juan Manuel Correa . At this point Correa was driving at a speed of around 270 km / h, both vehicles were torn apart in the collision. The race was stopped immediately and Hubert was taken to the medical center on the track, where he succumbed to his injuries around two hours later. Correa and Alesi were taken to a hospital in Liege. Correa was out of danger on the evening of the accident, but suffered broken legs and a spinal injury as a result of the accident. Alesi got away with no significant injuries and was not hospitalized.

Alesi is the son of the racing driver Jean Alesi . He lives in Geneva , Switzerland .
