In 2005 Tandy switched to formula racing and immediately won the BRDC single seater championship . He won 11 of 14 races. Tandy was active in the British Formula Ford for the next two years . He contested most of the races for his brother Joe Tandy Racing's team . In his first season he achieved the second, in the second season the third championship place. After the 2007 season, Tandy also took part in the Formula Palmer Audi autumn trophy . He finished seventh with two wins.

In 2008 Tandy switched to the British Formula 3 Championship , where he started again for his brother's team. He came third twice and second once. At the end of the season he was ninth in the drivers' championship. He also made guest appearances at several Formula Ford events and in the British Porsche Carrera Cup . He won his debut race in the British Porsche Carrera Cup. In 2009 Tandy started the season in British Formula 3. After he had achieved two podium finishes at the season opener, his first Formula 3 victory followed on the third race weekend. After the fourth race weekend, however, Tandy got out of this championship. At the end of the season he was tenth in the drivers' championship. Tandy then launched to six out of ten events of the Formula 3 Euro Series for Kolles & Heinz Union . Tandy remained without points.

After Tandy had made a total of three guest starts for Konrad Motorsport in the German Porsche Carrera Cup and the Porsche Supercup in 2009, he started in these racing series in 2010. In the German Porsche Carrera Cup, he won five out of nine races and was runner-up behind Nicolas Armindo with 121 to 142 points . He also had title chances in the Porsche Supercup this season . Tandy won three races and finished the season with 146 points in second place overall. The champion René Rast had six points more on the account. In 2011 Tandy stayed with Konrad Motorsport. In the German Porsche Carrera Cup, Tandy won three races and won the championship with 138 to 130 points ahead of Sean Edwards . Tandy achieved a race victory in the Porsche Supercup. In 2012 Tandy started in the ADAC GT Masters with a Porsche 911 GT3 R from Schütz Motorsport . Together with Christian Engelhart and Sean Edwards , who represented him in two races, they reached 3rd place in the team classification. Tandy reached position 7 in the drivers' standings, although he did not participate in two races because he started in other racing series. For example, he competed in the American Le Mans Series and was runner-up in the International GT Open . His team mate in the Manthey Racing team was Porsche works driver Marco Holzer . He was then awarded the Porsche Cup as the best private Porsche driver at the end of the year .

In December 2012 it was announced that Tandy will be included in the squad of Porsche works drivers from the 2013 season . His first official race was the Daytona 24-hour race . As a works driver, he competed in the European Le Mans Series for the Proton Competition team , where he achieved third place in the overall classification, and he also competed again in the American Le Mans Series. In 2014, his focus was on the United SportsCar Championship Series, where he and his team were able to achieve first place in the GTLM class at the Daytona 24-hour race.

Given his good performance, he was offered a test in the Porsche 919 Hybrid , on the basis of which he won a cockpit in the third Porsche Le Mans prototype . Surprisingly, he was able to win the 24-hour race on the Sarthe in 2015 with his team-mates Nico Hülkenberg and Earl Bamber, who were inexperienced at Le Mans .
