The Freedom Prize is a television film from the crime series Polizeiruf 110 . The 356th episode in the film series Polizeiruf 110 was first broadcast on April 17, 2016. Olga Lenski is investigating her tenth case, which she is solving for the second time in Poland with her new colleague and team partner Adam Raczek ( Lucas Gregorowicz ).

action

Shortly before the German-Polish border, a police patrol car had an accident while chasing an off-road vehicle. The young Krakow policewoman Katarzyna Ludwinek dies and the pursued Anton Shevshenko continues to flee on foot.

Adam Raczek and Olga Lenski take on the case. Lenski is surprised that the young intern was sitting alone at the wheel and that her companion, Police Commissioner Udo Lehde, was not there. The latter explains that Ludwinek simply drove off when she noticed the fleeing car and left it at the edge of the forest. First clues lead Lenski and Raczek to a car slide ring, which is led by the Ukrainian Vitali Doroshenko and for which the fugitive Anton Shevshenko works. There are also indications that Polish police officers are involved in this ring. In particular against Police Commissioner Udo Lehde there are increasing indications that he is corrupt.

Anton Shevshenko has meanwhile found shelter at Annemarie Piatkowski's farm. Since this farm is very remote and on the escape route, Raczek got the idea to look for him there, but he came too late. Shevshenko had noticed the inspector and fled. During his escape, he falls into the hands of the region's vigilante groups, who are now holding him prisoner. Lenski and Raczek find out and free the man. In the police station he is questioned about the course of the accident and he states that he did not brake arbitrarily and abruptly, but that a green light blinded him. The investigators find the explanation for this in Piatkowski's son. Lutz Piatkowski had taken him on his "patrol" that night and he had played around with a laser pointer.

Police commissioner Udo Lehde feels more and more cornered. In his distress he kidnaps Vitali Doroshenko. Lenski and Raczek are already on his track and are trying to get him to give up. On the phone he explains that he can't go back. After he got involved with Doroshenko, the latter began to put him under pressure. His family is therefore in danger. So he wanted to prevent his young colleague from chasing the car, but she just drove off. Lensky promises to help him, but he is convinced that as long as Doroshenko lives, he will hunt him down and take revenge. After he threatens him, he loses his nerve and shoots Doroshenko. When Lenski and Raczek arrive, they arrest Lehde.

Reviews

Roger Tell from tittelbach.tv writes: “The rbb's new 'Polizeiruf 110 - Der Preis der Freiheit' (Police Call 110 - The Price of Freedom) offers a less than original story of a car smear, too many topics and an investigative duo who (yet) don't really fit together. One suspects too quickly what this is really about. It's a shame, because more could be gotten out of the narrative exciting region of the German-Polish border area, even if Stephan Rick's staging captures the atmosphere and living conditions of the people in this region in an appealing way. "

“Director Stephan Rick [...] finds strong images: the cars speed ominously through the night, the fog hangs heavily over the Oder landscape. […] But when this fog clears, the viewer does not see any really new knowledge. The massive social upheavals that have kept Poland in suspense for some time are left out in this 'police call'. The two leading actors, Maria Simon and Lucas Gregorowicz, who are so daring to take risks, could be good scouts to lead the audience into this so close, so distant country. Sorry, we repeat ourselves: there is more. We stay tuned."
