Death of a Journalist is a television film from the crime series Polizeiruf 110 . The 382nd episode in the film series Polizeiruf 110 was first broadcast on December 29, 2019. It is the 16th case of Chief Inspector Olga Lenski and the eighth with Chief Inspector Adam Raczek.

action

The successful investigative journalist Anne Gerling had an accident in her car because the wheel nuts were loosened. A killer who chased her breaks the unconscious neck. The commissioners Olga Lenski and Adam Raczek determine that the journalist was on the trail of illegal activities by the energy company Ergatome .

She spent the night before her death with judge Lukasz Franczak, who in a few days will have to decide on the lawsuit against an ergatom nuclear power plant . Then she met an informant in a church whose spectacular information she wanted to discuss personally with her father, who is also a journalist. On the way to see him, she lost control of her car and was murdered.

The commissioners state that the brothers Martin and Johannes Schiller, who prepared a geological report, are being blackmailed into declaring the site for the nuclear power plant earthquake-proof in the process, although they have found the opposite. Katharina Franczak encourages her husband to follow his conscience and ignore Schiller's false statement. In order to force him to give a verdict for Ergatom, the killer brings Katharina Franczak into his power. Lenski, who wants to question Katharina, frees her and shoots the killer in self-defense. When he learns from Lenski that his wife is safe, the judge forbids the construction of the nuclear power plant.

Katharina Franczak was responsible for loosening the wheel nuts. She had found out about her husband's affair and since the journalist had reported in a letter about her pregnancy, she feared her husband might choose his lover. Her marriage had remained childless and she saw pregnancy as a great danger to her marriage. She just wanted to cause a small accident and hoped that Anne Gerling would only lose the child in the process.

Reviews

The film service rated the film with three out of five possible stars and rated it as a straightforward, well-played crime thriller, “which, despite its socially relevant topics, relies above all on solid tension build-up. The multi-layered figures add additional nuances. ”In the FAZ , Axel Weidemann praised the team around producer Heike Streich for“ raising big issues while the ensemble manages to lift this burden with pleasure. Inna Hartwich came to a contradicting opinion in the NZZ : The film failed because of its great claim to "mix up current topics such as attacks on investigative journalists, dealing with whistleblowers and the dangers of nuclear power plants," and "ultimately not go very far beyond the flat investigator question" Where were you between ... "."

Tilmann P. Gangloff from tittelbach.tv said: “The 'police call' from Brandenburg has turned into a serious color in the ARD Sunday crime series. In the past, the contributions from the RBB were a guarantee for slowing down, but 'Tod einer Journalistin' (RBB / Real Film) offers a really good mix of crime and political thriller. [...] The story is quite complex because of various interesting supporting characters, the staging is also captivating thanks to the good work with the actors. In addition, the film affords itself the luxury of doing without a potential leading actress after just a few minutes. "

The FAZ read: “What distinguishes this 'police call' is its unobtrusiveness. Dialogues and action don't look like they come from the Degeto laboratory. ”“ The film [gets] weight in the right places, which can skillfully balance the slight imbalance elsewhere - too many shadowy men in the backlight along with some predictability [...]. With this 'police call', the team around producer Heike Streich proves the courage to raise big issues while the ensemble manages to lift this burden with pleasure. One looks on, spellbound. "

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm gave this episode the best rating (“thumbs up”). They judged: "Classic, straight-forward narrated who-dunit crime thriller about explosive topics in times of high energy transition."
