Sons of Rostock is a TV film from the crime series Polizeiruf 110 . The report produced by Norddeutscher Rundfunk is the 383rd episode of Police Call 110 and the 21st case of investigators Bukow and König . It was first broadcast on January 19, 2020 in the first .

action

Alexander Bukow responds to an emergency call late at night. At first glance it looks like a false alarm, because homeowner Michael Norden says he has not reported a break-in. But when Bukow does hear a noise, a young man suddenly stumbles towards the inspector and dies in his arms. Michael Norden then flees and is put out to be searched. As Norden is a well-known young entrepreneur, Bukow's team quickly finds all the important background information about the person he is looking for, who fled to his former business partner Stefan Larges and asked him for financial help in order to be able to go underground. He had received a warning and must now get to safety.

The victim is Frank Fischer, who, according to the investigators, was a close friend from the north. According to his girlfriend, both have had differences lately. At first, the investigators cannot find out what Fischer did for a living. Michael Norden, on the other hand, has proven to be a very successful businessman over the past three years. It is only noticeable that he has recently withdrawn all the money from his companies. According to his former business partner Stefan Larges, Norden had financial problems and he suspects that Norden has made a mistake.

But not only Bukow and König are looking for Michael Norden, but also his 17-year-old son Jon Hövermann, about whom Norden knows nothing. Jon has only just found out who his father is and is emotionally troubled because of it. His mother is very worried and asks Bukow to look for him, since Jon has now also disappeared.

In the meantime, a hard drive with data from Nord's main company "Rodi-Time" and a large amount of cash is found in a hiding place, which the killed Frank Fischer had apparently deposited there. After analyzing the hard drive data, Norden had actually speculated with money futures and Fischer possibly did his own business with this data. A car is also found in the trunk of which Fischer found blood and thus clarified how the seriously injured victim was able to get to the north's property. The car belongs to Gunter Engels, a drug dealer on record. When investigators find him, he is dead, apparently from an overdose that was most likely forcibly administered to him by Michael Norden, who is now still on the run. When Jon finally finds his father, he gets a glimpse of his father's desperation and learns that Larges had his best friend killed just to see him on the ground. In order not to endanger Jon, he brings him back to his mother and wants to flee abroad himself. But Bukow and König intercept him on the ferry and arrest him.

Michael Norden confesses to being on the run from Larges. He would not have gotten over the fact that Norden had left his company and took more with him than he was entitled to. Larges would have only used Fischer and when he noticed this, he wanted to have Larges and his financial futures exposed. That's why he should have died.

Jon is now on his way to see Larges. In the hope of getting his father's approval, he wants to hold his adversary accountable. When Bukow and König find out, they make their way to Large's villa and also take Norden with them, who just barely stops his son from becoming a murderer.

In a subplot, Guido Wachs (from the earlier episode For Janina ) contacts König through his lawyer. After years of imprisonment, he wants to prove his innocence. König makes the whole thing increasingly nervous, because she had manipulated evidence at the time to achieve wax conviction. Since she could not prove anything conclusively for the murder, which he very probably also committed, she had put someone else on him, against which he now, legitimately, wants to take legal action. Bukow advises her to stay calm and not to lose her nerve.

Reviews

Christian Buß from Spiegel Online said: “Rostock has the blues: The 'police call' investigators are chasing after a dubious businessman through crash bars and demolished houses. Atmospheric twilight crime thriller. "

At the Süddeutsche Zeitung , Holger Gertz said: "The way Hübner and Sarnau always treat each other, so lifelike and originally not well rested - that turns a solid piece into something special."

Rainer Tittelbach from Tittelbach.tv wrote: “'Söhne Rostocks' is particularly convincing as a portrait of a knight of fortune, as a drama that largely does without the drive and dynamism of other films in the series. Christian von Castelberg's film based on the book by Markus Busch is full of strong moments: sometimes there are game scenes, realistic miniatures in which even secondary characters get a great psychophysical presence, sometimes there are striking images that wrest moments of color and light from the dreary wintry weather. "

Heike Hupertz from the FAZ came to the conclusion: “This 'police call' is more and more like the wild hunt for the grail of motivation that eats her disciples. Martin Farkas' camera holds against it and creates more of the highlights of the scenery, illuminating precision right down to the flaking corners of the wallpaper in the old building of Nordens youthful love Beate Hövermann.
