Bukow and King

Investigation location Rostock ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania )

The Rostock detective chief inspectors Alexander Bukow , played by Charly Hübner , and Katrin König , played by Anneke Kim Sarnau , are fictional people from the ARD crime series Polizeiruf 110 .

background

The team investigated for the first time in 2010 and replaced the Schwerin police call team with Uwe Steimle and Felix Eitner at Norddeutscher Rundfunk . With the exception of the Rostock investigation site, the majority of the shooting takes place in Hamburg . Street photos repeatedly show Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg . The office is located in an abandoned customs control post on the former free port border on the Veddel .

With Eoin Moore , an author is responsible for the constant development of the characters; the films with Bukow and König are therefore no exception. They have a horizontal narrative structure . The ancestry and early childhood of Katrin König is revealed over several episodes, in another storyline a love relationship develops between Bukow's wife and his colleague Thiesler over several episodes, which leads to the failure of Bukow's marriage and tensions between Bukow and Thiesler.

When asked about the authenticity of the professional background of the character Katrin König, the press spokeswoman for the Rostock police stated that it was absolutely unusual for a case analyst to work directly with the investigators: "As a case analyst, you have to have a different view of the crime." Furthermore, case analysts would not be used for internal investigation.

Anneke Kim Sarnau and Charly Hübner also appeared as König and Bukow in the series Der Tatortreiniger .

Katrin König

Katrin König is a case analyst at the State Criminal Police Office and is initially investigating Alexander Bukow. After the investigation against him was concluded without a result, she stayed in Rostock and worked there as a profiler for the homicide squad and thus often worked with Bukow's department. Bukow's psychological methods are often met with skepticism, but they are widely accepted.

King was adopted as a child. Through Bukow she realizes that she was born in the GDR and fled to the West at the age of four. However, her parents did not manage to escape, which was traumatic for König. Her mother, Ingrid Wernicke, drowned in the Baltic Sea when she tried to fish her daughter's suitcase out of the water. Her father was arrested by the state security beforehand and imprisoned in the prison in Bautzen .

In the episode In the Shadow , she reveals to her colleagues that she has applied for a position in Berlin . She gets this job well, decides at the end of the episode fear justifies the means but to stay in Rostock.

König represents a left-wing political stance, which is expressed, among other things, through appropriate political posters and stickers in her office.

Alexander "Sascha" Bukow

Alexander Bukow grew up in Rostock, but decided to join the police in Berlin. There he went on patrol, made up his Abitur and finally made it to the chief detective. Shortly before the investigation of a special unit is over, Bukow leaves the special group; the investigation fails shortly thereafter. Since Bukow is suspected of being corrupt, he is first investigated in Rostock.

Bukow is married and has two sons. However, his marriage fails due to his professional obligations.

Bukow, who threatened to get on the wrong track as a teenager, often reacts emotionally, likes to stretch the rules and tends to go it alone. His colleagues therefore repeatedly doubt his sincerity.

In the course of working with König, he learns to love her, but only reveals himself to her when his father tells him not to waste time unnecessarily.

Other police officers

The first chief detective Henning Röder, played by Uwe Preuss , is the head of the homicide commission, of which he has been a member since the early 1990s. He often supports Bukow, especially during Katrin König's investigation against him. However, he often has to call Bukow to order, as he often interprets the rules very broadly and tends to go it alone.

Chief Detective Anton Pöschel, played by Andreas Guenther , would like to head the department and is therefore initially extremely suspicious and hostile towards Bukow. In particular to his colleague Thiesler, he often expresses himself disparagingly about Bukow and does not shy away from suspicions.

Kriminaloberkommissar Volker Thiesler, played by Josef Heynert , is initially Bukow's confidante on the homicide squad and stands behind his boss. Since Bukow often cannot keep appointments with his wife for official reasons, he usually asks Thiesler to replace him. Over time, Bukow's wife and Thiesler get closer and have an affair, which leads to the end of Bukow's marriage and puts a lasting strain on the collegial relationship between the two commissioners.

Family of Alexander Bukow

Alexander Bukow's father Veit, played by Klaus Manchen , lives in Rostock and runs a boxing club (Veits Klub). He often moves on the border to the criminal milieu. After his marriage failed, Sascha Bukow lived with him for a while. He always has a fatherly relationship with his son, but knows how to skilfully ignore his illegal business in order to avoid causing problems for his son as a police officer. He dies in an assassination attempt with which a criminal wants to mentally hit and punish Alexander Bukow.

Bukow's wife Vivian, played by Fanny Staffa , is dissatisfied with her husband's workload. Over time, she gets closer to Bukow's colleague Thiesler and has an affair with him, which ends her marriage.

The younger son of the Bukows, Samuel "Sami", played by Jack Owen Berglund , suffers particularly from the separation of his parents and blames his father for the failure of the marriage. Since the episode In the Shadow , he has only appeared without his brother, has become increasingly rebellious and commits minor crimes. The episode Child Welfare is about the search for Samuel, who ran away with an abusive friend.

The older son of the Bukows Frederik "Freddie" was played by Lukas Till Berglund . The actors, who are actually siblings, played together in cases 1 to 3 and 8 to 10. His disappearance is only explained by a phone call with his father in Im Schatten , in which he refuses to meet together.

In 2012 Anneke Kim Sarnau and Charly Hübner were nominated for the Grimme Prize in the “Special” category for their portrayal of Bukow and König in the films Feindbild and ... and out of here . In 2013, Charly Hübner received the Bavarian TV Prize for best actor in the fisherman's war .

In 2019, Polizeiruf 110 from Rostock was awarded the Roland Film Prize of the crime festival Tatort Eifel for investigators Bukow and König .

criticism

The Rostock police call is also largely positive in the criticism: Christian Buß praised Bukow and König as the strongest team of investigators in a television thriller. The smaller roles are also coherent and beyond the cliché.

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv also praises: “König and Bukow [...] belong to the row investigators whom one particularly likes to watch because one finds them 'normal', not so aloof, not yet so ritualized or worn out through the years Continuous use and because the keyword 'authenticity' can be ascribed to them, their stories and their milieu. The sympathy has something to do with the actors as well as with the role, who understands private life as something that creates personality and not as a necessary evil. The biographical aspect of this duo […] [is not as usual parallel […] [told], but rather short-circuited with the story of the crime case ", which" proves to be a particularly exciting variant in this (psycho) physical constellation [of the cases] " .

The Focus writes: "You are one of the most contradicting pairs of investigators in German television crime - and actually you are not even a real team". "Charly Huebner manages to convince this type of disaffected but passionate police officer without a false Schimanski attitude."
