occupation

Aquarius is a German crime film by Edward Berger from 2010. It is the 312nd episode in the film series Polizeiruf 110 and the second case for Chief Inspector Alexander Bukow ( Charly Hübner ) and the LKA officer Katrin König ( Anneke Kim Sarnau ). The main guest stars of this episode are Karl Kranzkowski , Hans-Uwe Bauer , Marie Gruber and Thomas Darchinger .

This time, Bukow and König are faced with two deaths, which happened almost at the same time and ultimately even brought them together.

action

Maik Lehmann is out and about in a shopping center with his family when he meets the homeless Frank Dörner, who behaves strangely and ultimately throws money around him. The man looks familiar to Lehmann, so he follows him after he escaped from the mall. He follows him to his hiding place on the Warnow bank . When he realizes that he has stepped on what turns out to be a mine, it is already too late, the detonation tears him apart. Since he does not appear again, Lehmann's wife Claudia seeks advice in the police station.

Commissioner Bukow wants to take on the case, but an unfortunate "accident" of a colleague prevents him. Rolf Schulte, who has been a house postman in the police station for two years and a good friend of Bukow, is found dead in the port of Rostock. Since only fresh water can be found in his lungs, it is clear that he was drowned and only then thrown into the Baltic Sea. So it's about murder, and Bukow and König start the investigation together with their colleagues Anton Pöschel and Volker Thiesler. The search of Schulte's apartment surprisingly reveals various Bundeswehr pistols. On a photo over 30 years old, Bukow recognizes his colleague as a combat swimmer in the Volksmarine together with Maik Lehmann, who was reported missing by his wife the day before.

Bukow has to find out from his superior that an investigation into corruption has been going on against him for some time and that Katrin König is therefore in Rostock. Indeed, Bukov has big problems. Dragan Nikolic, a gangster from Berlin, because of which he left there and went to Rostock, had kidnapped Bukow's son at the time in order to get him to collaborate on his machinations, now Bukow feels threatened by him again. There are indications that Rolf Schulte was smuggled into the police station as a “ mole ”, because Katrin König caught him actually trying to spy on data and had opened the file from a Subocek on her computer. The investigator tries to find out for what purpose and for whom he did this. She has to break off this search because now - after a week - Maik Lehmann's body has been found. Based on the metal fragments found and the condition of the body, it is clear that the victim stepped on a sea mine. This mine came from Bundeswehr stocks, like the weapons from Schulte's possession. For the investigating officers, this is initially very puzzling, because Schulte and Lehmann were combat swimmers for the East German NVA .

The investigation leads to Aquarius , an association of combat swimmer veterans, which is headed by the brothers Heinz and Ulli Kowski. Heinz Kowski in particular has quite considerable funds for a former GDR citizen. He also owns a luxury hotel in Rostock, where his brother is employed as managing director and Maik Lehmann also worked with Rolf Schulte as security. The solution to the riddle is their common past. At the end of the GDR era, for example, the four were employed as guards for a secret KoKo warehouse in which weapons, gold and art objects worth millions were stored. Heinz Kowski, the leader of this group, no longer got along with his brother, which is why he wanted to clear the gold from their "raid" for himself. To do this, he used the mentally ill Frank Dörner, who hid the loot in the river and secured the bank with a mine.

Although Ulli Kowski stabbed the homeless man out of hand so that he could not betray him, his brother Heinz found him. Because he did not trust his rather unstable brother to do something like that, his suspicion initially fell on Rolf Schulte, whom he ultimately killed. When a light dawned on him, he was furious and shot Ulli, but had to flee because the police had noticed him. Bukow finds Heinz Kowski and arrests him. The gold can also be recovered and taken into safekeeping.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv wrote: “Like 'One of Us', 'Aquarius' is characterized by its powerful realism, which this time seems even more authentic than the thriller by Eoin Moore, which is not entirely free from the constraints of a series start. Charly Hübner continues where he left off as a police officer suspected of corruption: angular, robust and very reduced. [...] Anneke Kim Sarnau continues to equip her somewhat less credible figure with a great psychophysical presence and a realism of the small gesture that immediately undermines banal or overly meaningful sentences. "

Focus, on the other hand, found: "Too much sex, too much blood, too much mess - the 'police call' fits Sunday evening like snow in May." As an example, he cites the entrance scene in "how it can be done by television logic alone Man] on the only mine far and wide. He flies in the air, both of his legs stay on the ground. While a lot of blood is oozing from his mouth, Dad gives the camera a close-up of death. ” Focus thinks the story itself is“ basically all right. ”

Jürgen Kirsch fromquotemeter.de judged: After a "promising start [...] [this police succession] later does not fully meet the demands made here." [...] The lack of deepening in the subject [of the GDR past] may raise questions in the audience that the film does not answer. In the foreground, however, is the story of friendship, betrayal and rivalry, which is told plausibly. It was also possible to create a narrative structure that promises tension. [...] The criminal case is largely obscure during the season, but at times it is also confusing. If you cannot classify the historical context exactly, this is a disadvantage in some scenes, even if the connections become clearer later. "In conclusion, the critic said:" Ultimately, however, the positive aspects of this film predominate. "
