occupation

In the shadow is a German crime film by Philipp Leinemann from 2016. It is the 359th episode in the film series Polizeiruf 110 and the 14th case for Chief Inspector Alexander Bukow ( Charly Hübner ) and the LKA officer Katrin König ( Anneke Kim Sarnau ) . The main guest stars of this episode are Elisabeth Baulitz , Hansjürgen Hürrig , Kirsten Block , Bernhard Conrad as well as Norbert Hülm and Christian Hockenbrink .

Bukow and König try to clear up an unsuccessful operation of the police, which was carried out together with the colleagues of the customs investigation and in which there were two deaths.

action

The detective chief inspectors Bukow and König assist the customs investigation and monitor the drug smuggler Ralf Gellert, who recently killed a woman. When he notices the police officers, he takes a child hostage, whereupon the customs officer Jana Zander kills the hostage-taker with a targeted shot.

The next day, Martin Angerer, the operations manager, was found dead. Everything points to a mafia organization that wants to illegally bring drugs to Scandinavia via the Rostock port. Bukow and König are skeptical, however, because this incident is likely to be too minor for the organization and therefore they would not make themselves vulnerable to the murder of a "small" customs officer. So the two investigators go on a search for motives and clues. Martin Angerer was known to his colleagues for going it alone, they also consider it possible that he “had something going on”. In particular, his colleague Erik Lorch burdens him in this regard. When police officer Thiesler Lorch observes, he has the impression that he is corrupt and that he is being paid to turn a blind eye to his checks or to warn his customers when a check is pending. He confronts Lorch and learns that he only picked up the money to give it to Angerer's wife. She is suffering from cancer and needs medication that the health insurance does not pay for.

While Volker Thiesler researches among his customs colleagues, Bukow and König concentrate on the drug scene in Rostock. They manage to track down the dealer Mirco Lewandowski. Jana Zander supports them in this. She grew up with the Angerers as a foster child and has a keen interest in "stepping on the Mafia's feet". After initial research, the drug ring brings goods via the grain port to Scandinavia. Lewandowski is observed and arrested when he is about to pass on a delivery of drugs in the port. During the interrogation, Bukow and König offer him the leniency program if he testifies against his backers. However, after the seized drug turned out to be a test delivery and there were no drugs in the package, the investigators ran into trouble with evidence and had to release Lewandowski again.

What Bukow and König did not suspect at the time: In Jana Zander they had a dogged woman at their side who cannot lose. As she felt more and more in her work that she would never get hold of the big criminals, she began to take the law into her own hands, but also corrupted herself with minor customs offenses. Lewandowski cannot and does not want to allow Lewandowski to get away with it. She lies in wait for him and kills him. König is gradually discovering that Jana Zander is playing the wrong game. She deliberately executed drug smuggler Ralf Gellert, like Lewandowski now. She even sacrificed her father. For one thing, he had seen through her, and for another, she deliberately wanted to attribute this murder to the drug mafia.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv thought that this police call “is designed as a dense, introverted crime drama, cinematically and psychologically a little more supple than some of the darker predecessors of the offshoot. Character-driven, moderately narrated horizontally, atmospheric, Hübner / Sarnau as always a bank! ”“ No big psychological barrels are opened here - but a very coherent emotional sub-floor is spread out on which the crime thriller can run all the more densely and emotionally smooth. "

In Welt.de Barbara Möller wrote: "So was gray no longer a television crime. Organized crime seems to have sucked out all the color. Rostock looks so joyless that you don't want to hang a picture on the wall. Quite apart from the fact that you don't want to be protected by such a customs or police. "

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm came to the conclusion: “In rough Baltic Sea sadness pictures, 'Polizeiruf' debutant Philipp Leinemann powerfully tells of the consequences of frustrating, disillusioning police work. Thematically there are parallels to his cinema thriller 'We Were Kings' (2014). Screenwriter Florian Oeller, who is well acquainted with the series, develops the main characters further, hinting at Bukow's increasing estrangement from his son. "

“Laconic, northern German, but if necessary with a hard punch, the fish cop crime thriller purrs here. [...] Although the horizontal series narration does not quite reach the depth here as it did last week in the Dortmund rocker 'Tatort' , the filmmakers reel off their Mafia plot flawlessly. "
