Urs Rechn (born January 18, 1978 in Halle an der Saale ) is a German theater and film actor , speaker and director .

Life

The son of the painter Günther Rechn was seen in smaller roles at the Cottbus State Theater during his school days . After graduating from Heinrich-Heine-Gymnasium Cottbus , he studied acting at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theater in Leipzig . Even then he was on stage at the Dresden State Theater. In his diploma thesis he dealt with the influence of Beckett and Brecht on his work as an actor. Immediately after his diploma, he took up an engagement at the Landestheater Tübingen at the beginning of the 2005/06 season . In the 2005-2007 season he played Jason in Mamma Medea by Tom Lanoye , Orestes in Iphigenia on Tauris and Yang Sun in The Good Man of Sezuan .

From 2008 to 2013 he was under contract at the Städtische Bühnen Chemnitz . Here he played, among other things, the role of Stanley Kowalski in Endstation Sehnsucht directed by Enrico Lübbe , whereby the critics particularly praised the "aggression ... of elementary suddenness" and the "macho dominant" of his game and him close to Marlon Brando's legendary portrayal in the 1951 film of the same name was moving. In 2009 he also staged a report for an academy by Franz Kafka at the Schauspielhaus Chemnitz together with Mario Grünewald , in which he also played the solo of Rotpeter. In October 2011, Rechn finally succeeded with a celebrated performance of Peachum in Brecht's Threepenny Opera .

In addition to his theater career, Rechn has also been in demand as an actor in film and television since 1997. He played in many German television series, such as Polizeiruf 110 , Tatort , GSG 9 - Your commitment is your life and The Commissioner . In the film he can be seen in numerous leading and supporting roles in German and international productions, including Hunger auf Leben (2004), Das wilde Leben (2007) and We were Kings (2014).

The International Film Festival of Cannes 2015 ran Saul fia of Laszlo Nemes compete. In the Hungarian production, which revisits the role of the members of a special commando in the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp , Rechn plays the role of the Jewish chief chaplain Biedermann. Saul fia was nominated for the Oscar for best foreign language film on January 14, 2016 and won it on February 28. The film also received the festival's second highest award, the Grand Prix, by the international jury in Cannes.

From September 2017 to July 2018 he presented the rbb television series "Erlebnis Geschichte". Urs Rechn also works as a speaker in radio and radio plays.
