Life

Günther Rechn studied tapestry and painting from 1966 to 1971 at the Burg Giebichenstein Art College in Halle an der Saale. His academic teachers included Lothar Zitzmann , Hannes H. Wagner and Willi Sitte . After a one-year traineeship , he worked from 1972 to 1977 as an assistant for nature studies and life drawing at the Burg Giebichenstein art college. From 1977 he worked as a freelance painter and graphic artist in Lower Lusatia . In the 1980s, Günther Rechn was Chairman of the Association of Visual Artists of the Cottbus district and can be seen in national and international exhibitions.

After the turnaround and the collapse of the structures of the eastern art business, Rechn first worked as a stage painter at the Cottbus State Theater and as a restorer in Lower Bavaria . From 1993 to 1994 he was the first urban draftsman to give an artistic glimpse of Cottbus after the fall of the city. Günther Rechn has lived and worked in Limberg and Grosseto since 1994 . Since 1989 he can be seen with exhibitions in Germany, France, Italy, Poland and the Czech Republic with his works. Günther Rechn is married and has two children. The actor and director Urs Rechn is his son.

Artistic creation

Holger Schwiewager, the director of the gallery Bilder im Hof in Flensburg, comments on the artist:

Everything is in motion in Günther Rechn's pictures, which are dominated by stormy emotionality. Social references are reflected in the narrowest of spaces, which, as dramatic, humanistic or literary content, become parable of the image. A painterly presence is articulated in short, dramatic brush strokes that become aggressively presented corporeality, vibrating signs of existential manifestations of existence on the canvas, which develop entirely from the paint, from its impasto or glaze application. In this spontaneous-looking, colorful painting, baroque force and abundance appear as well as subtle, linear webs emerging from the drawing.

Herbert Schirmer , writes in a commentary on the catalog of the solo exhibition Günther Rechn "Painting" :

Posing in a completely different system of relationships, domesticated in a dramatic figurativity in which the boundaries between closeness and distance, between individual and image seem to have been abolished, falling angels in bizarre costumes. As symbols of creative restlessness and spontaneous promise, despite their wings, they fall upside down from the protected sphere of heaven. Are the shimmering beings now transforming from the state of happiness-giving otherworldliness back into the state of this-worldly corporeality or are doubts about the suppression of the human being in his physical shell, doubts about the physical and psychological integrity registered?
