Enrico Lübbe (born April 9, 1975 in Schwerin ) is a German theater director and artistic director . Since 2013 he has directed the Leipzig theater .

Career

Enrico Lübbe was born in Schwerin in 1975. At the age of eleven he played the title role in the six-part GDR television series Alfons Zitterbacke . Lübbe graduated from the Goethe-Gymnasium Schwerin in 1993 and then studied communication, media and theater studies at the University of Leipzig from 1993 to 1999 . Then he started as an assistant director at the Schauspiel Leipzig . He made his directorial debut there in 1999, after having worked with directors such as Wolfgang Engel , Armin Petras and Thomas Bischoff at the Leipzig Theater from 1998 . In Leipzig he worked as a permanent in-house director between 2000 and 2004. Since 2001 he has directed as a guest at the Schauspiel Köln , Schauspiel Magdeburg and since 2004 regularly at the State Theater Stuttgart and State Theater Nuremberg . In 2010 he made his Munich debut with the production of Gerhart Hauptmanns Rose Bernd at the Residenztheater of the Bavarian State Theater . In 2011 he opened the season at the Schauspiel Frankfurt with Schiller's Die Räuber , in 2012 he made his capital debut at the Berliner Ensemble with stories from the Vienna Woods by Ödön von Horváth, was nominated for the Friedrich-Luft-Prize and invited to the Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen 2013. In 2013 Lübbe staged the German premiere of Manfred Trojahn's Orestes at the Hanover State Opera .

Enrico Lübbe works continuously with the dramaturge / director Torsten Buß and the outfitters Hugo Gretler, Sabine Blickenstorfer, Michaela Barth, Bianca Deigner, Henrik Ahr and Etienne Pluss, as well as the stage musician Bert Wrede . His work has received multiple awards and invited to national and international festivals.

From 2008 to 2013 Enrico Lübbe was acting director in Chemnitz . Under his leadership, the Chemnitz Theater recorded increasing national attention and increased visitor numbers. The Chemnitzer Schauspiel was invited to the Mülheimer Theatertage and Autorentheatertage in Berlin and received several awards from the annual critics' surveys of the specialist magazines Theater heute and Die Deutsche Bühne , including the nomination for “Theater of the Year” in 2010 and 2012. The newly founded theater youth club was awarded both ZDF festival "Schoolchildren play Sturm und Drang" as well as invited to the "Berlin Theatertreffen der Jugend 2010" and again to the "Berliner Theatertreffen der Jugend 2011". In 2012, Schauspiel Chemnitz made a guest appearance at the Slovenian Theater Days in the European capital of culture Maribor .

Enrico Lübbe has been artistic director at the Schauspiel Leipzig since the 2013/14 season. Here too, the number of viewers has increased since the beginning of his directorship. The Schauspiel Leipzig was invited under Lübbe to the most important German festivals for contemporary drama: to the Heidelberger Stückemarkt 2014, 2015 and 2018, to the Autorentheatertage Berlin 2014, 2017 and 2019, to the festival “Radikal Jung” 2015 and to the Mülheimer Theatertage 2014, 2016 and in 2019, where the playwright Wolfram Höll was awarded the Mülheim Dramatist Prize in 2014 and 2016 for the Leipzig world premieres of his plays And Then and Three We are, and Thomas Köck for his Leipzig world premiere ATLAS 2019 with the most renowned German-language playwright prize. In 2015 he opened the season with the highly acclaimed Aeschylus / Jelinek double project Die Schutzflehenden / Die Schutzbefohlenen , which was invited to the 70th Ruhr Festival in Recklinghausen and was selected by the Berlin Theatertreffen 2016. In June 2016, the city of Leipzig extended Enrico Lübbe's directorship contract ahead of schedule until 2023.
