Thomas Bischoff

Thomas Bischoff (* 1957 in Lützen ) is a German theater director.

Life

He grew up in Magdeburg and began at the theater as a stage technician, then as a sound engineer, and later he worked in the areas of assistant director and directing. He created his first productions in Senftenberg with plays by Heiner Müller . Bischoff's guest production of Müller's Battle in Parchim received an award from the GDR in 1987.

After 1989 first successes followed in the west in Cologne , Graz , Heidelberg and Mainz . Since 1997, Bischoff has directed the Münchner Kammerspiele on a regular basis . Bischoff's Leipzig production of the women's comedy by Heiner Müller was invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen in 1999 .

In 1999 the Volksbühne engaged Bischoff as in-house director on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin . He stayed here until 2001. Since then he has worked as a freelance director a. a. at the Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf , the Staatstheater Hannover and the Deutsches Theater Berlin . In the meantime he has also worked for the music theater, for example at the Stuttgart State Opera in 2009 (Bartók, Heiner Müller, Arnold Schönberg).
